Y/N has to get glasses after the group find out why she is acting differently!
Squinting, you look out at the road sign. You could just make out the blob of letters, and that one word had approximately 9 letters in it. Otherwise, you had no idea what it said.
'So? Where are we Y/N?' Addy's expectant voice came from beside you, in slight frustration. She, Mack and 10k were laying beside you in the truck bed, exhausted from the day. You were sitting, feeling the cool evening air wrap around you in comfort and nostalgia.
'Uh....'
'What is that supposed to mean?' Mack mumbles. 'Is there no road signs?'
'Don't be ridiculous. Warren always parks by them, so that she can be extra sure where we are. So, where are we? Don't make me open my eyes,' Addy asks again, impatiently.
'Well...'
'Can't read?' 10k jokingly mumbles, voice thick with sleep. You shoot him a glare; one that he can't see. You return to the sign, squinting to see it closer. The headlights of the truck shine a bright spotlight onto it, exposing its every mark and letter.
Yet you still can't read it.
'It's too far away. I'm sorry, but I can't read it. I'm going to hop out and see if I can read it there.'
You hop out of the truck, Addy sitting up as you leave in confusion. She sees the road sign standing tall directly in front of the truck, in perfect view. The words stand out in bright white lettering against the leaf green background.
She watches as you stumble in the slight darkness, walking across the asphalt, kicking a few pebbles along the way. You walk to the front of the truck and stand for a few seconds, before leaning in a bit more. You stand still for a few more seconds before turning around and walking to the truck bed.
'Looks like we're in Littleton, Colorado. (I don't live in America so I have no idea where this is or anything so I apologise if it's not on the way to California or whatever, just go with it lol) Sorry, I really couldn't see it from there. I must be really tired or something.'
Addy slowly nods, and then lays back down. You lay down beside 10k and fall asleep, not giving it another thought.
~ ~ ~
'Y/N!'
You whip around to the sound of your name, and spot 10k's concerned face. His knife is raised and he is pointing behind you.
'What? What's going on?'
'Horde! Hurry, we gotta follow Warren and hide!'
He turns and runs in the direction of a run-down building, following Mack. You stare at him in confusion. There's no horde, is there?
You turn back around and gaze into the distance, out into the hills covered in brown dead grass. All you can see is the trees that crowd so close together, they form a blob. Such a beautiful blob.
'Actually, that blob looks like something. Like, if you look really closely, it kinda looks like a dog. No, it looks like a racoon. A racoon that's jumping really high in the air or something. Kind of like-'
Your thoughts are interrupted by the view of a snarling zombie right in your face. Uttering a startled cry, you step backward. You slip on a pebble and fall to the ground, the zombie landing on top of you. You put your hands on its shoulders and try to keep it off you, struggling with the weight of it. You scream to the others for help; feeling the zombie's hot breath.
Footsteps thud from behind you and the zombie is pushed off you, after a slice in the brain that sprays blood on your face. 10k comes into view, his knife raised and concern written all over his face. He holds his hand out to you and once you take it you both run to the building.
