A 50k read special that definitely hasn't taken 5 months to write, so long that it was started at the beginning of summer and now it's not summer anymore, definitely not..

You soak up the warmth of the sun, praying that it will heat up the coldness in your heart. You close your eyes as the rays of sunshine hit you, highlighting your skin. You lean back on your hands and contently sigh softly.
Until a shadow blocks it.
You peek open an eye and groan as you see Warren standing in the way of the sun, arms crossed.
'Not until you've put sunscreen on.'
You groan. 'It's literally the apocalypse, Warren. I think that melanoma is the least of my worries.'
Warren frowns. 'Once we find the cure then it will be. Get up and put some on now, child.'
You groan, shifting from your place on top of the car and fanning yourself. Addy hands you the tube with a grin, pushing her large sunglasses up onto place on her nose. You gently squirt some of the cream onto your hands and wipe it onto your face gingerly. You've always hated it.
When Warren isn't looking, you pull off your jacket to reveal your singlet underneath. You take off your boots and socks and find a spot by the river, laying on the lush grass. You feel the sun warm your bare legs and your back which makes you sigh again.
You flip over onto your back, feeling the sun warm your face again. You smile as you hear the chattering of the group around you and feel the light splashing from the river as Mack and 10k frolic in the shallows.
Waking up with a start, you flip over onto your stomach in order to avoid sunburn. The sun feels like a backrub and you sigh with content, burying your face into the soft grass. Travelling during the heatstroke seemed like the worst thing on earth but now that you have stopped to enjoy it, the heatstroke is the best thing to come out of the apocalypse so far.
The sun shines down on you, warming you from head to toe and lulling you to sleep.

A hard shaking on your shoulders makes you wake up with a start, rolling over quickly and then gasping in pain. The group is crowded around you, Warren with a stern look on her face.
'Ooh, that looks bad,' Addy squeals with laughter. Cassandra explodes in giggles, covering her mouth.
'That reminds me of that time when I-'
Warren interrupts her, telling the giggling pair to leave. You look down at yourself, seeing a light brown tan. You look at the rest of the group in confusion. Garnett is struggling to hold in his laughter and Mack is wincing in sympathetic pain.
'What is it?'
You leap up, looking for what the group was gawping at. 10k comes over and pokes you gently in your back, which makes you squeal in pain.
'Ow! Why did you-'
You stop as you realise. 'How bad is it?'
You hear Addy giggle loudly from across the river.
'Very bad!' Cassandra splutters.
10k grins. 'Yeah, I'd say you're a lobster right now.'
You gasp. 'No!'
Warren is still glaring at you. 'I guess that you didn't listen to me, did you Y/N?'
You look down sheepishly, expecting to be told off. But then she bursts out laughing herself.
