"Wait, so, where's your family again?" I ask the little girl at my door way.
"My mom was killed by zombies. My sister was stolen by my-uh- Herobrine. And my dad had my other-I mean- Notch, use a spell of forgetting on him. He doesn't even know I exist," She explains, obviously leaving out quite a bit.
"And you want me to let you live with me?" I groan, leaning against my door frame.
"Well, yes. Come on man, I'm only 11 and don't really have anywhere else," She answers.
"Um, no. But I will take you to the Sky army. They aren't looking for new recruits just yet, but they always have room for those in need," I explain, stepping aside to let the girl in.
"Oh sure. Just drop me off at some strange army that's just going to use me for wars. Thanks a lot, jerk!" The girl complains, glaring at me.
"The Sky army is a peaceful, accepting army. They only fight the squids, and even then, only when needed. I could take you to the Dead army, those guys are insane though," I challenge, shoving the girl in. She stops and stares at my living room, marveling at my large number of heads and weapons.
"Holy shhh..." She trails off, stopping in front of a display case full of bows.
"You look like you've never seen a weapon in your life. Stop gauging, you idiot!" I joke, pulling her hand away from the glass.
"It's just like my old house. Dad always was a big explorer. I can't even remember how many portals and tele-pads we had in our backyard. He'd promised to take me when I was older," The little girl sighs. Sensing that she was about to cry, I quickly change the subject.
"So, what's your name anyway?" I ask awkwardly.
"Lelena, I think. I haven't heard or said it in years, so it might be different. Most people call me Flame though," Lelena answers, trying to remember her lost title.
"Why Flame? You don't seem anything like fire," I question, pointing out her tan skin, "I mean, I've heard of lava mobs, but you're defiantly not one."
"Oh, it's 'cause when I'm angry, I can tear through almost anything like a wild fire. Things are almost as easy to destroy as if I were one of the Creatives," Lelena answers, smiling evilly at my grand wooden house. I quickly usher the girl outside.
"To the Sky army it is, then! Now, just give me a minute to grab one of my bows. Don't. Touch. Anything," I order, rushing back into my house to gather the few supplies we'd need for the short journey.
The walls of the legendary base loom high over us, the gold veins along the walls glittering in the moonlight. I fire a flare arrow into the sky, watching as it explodes into thousands of glittering, green particles. A guard appears at the top of a watch tower.
"Hi Clay! How's training going?" He asks, waving.
"Good! I still have two months until I can show you, but I'm not here to brag! I got a new recruit for you guys!" I answer, pushing Lelena forward a bit.
"Oh, perfect! Bring her in. She's gonna need to be evaluated, then registered first. Could take a day or two, why don't you stay Clay. You could tour the place before you, no doubt, get in," the guard suggests, flipping a lever to open the massive gates. City streets, teeming with activity are revealed. Giant building reach to the sky and venders offer every food and weapon under the sun. Except for the two bow that have always managed to escape me. The heavenly bow and the obsidian bow. I ignore all the offers and head for the castle near the center of the city.
"How do I join their army? I feel like I'm gonna like it here," Lelena wonders aloud, looking around in awe.
"Well, first we have to get to that castle and talk to the house sorcerer. His name is Seto. Next, you'll be questioned and evaluated. That'll decide which type of soldier you'll be," I explain, looking only at the castle.
"How do you know so much about this place, if you're not even part of it yet?" She asks, focusing back on me.
"I've been training to get into this place since before I can remember. I've read every book in every library on it. I may not be a part of it yet, but I have made a name for myself here. Everyone is certain that I'll be the new commander of the archer class. Let's just put it this way, I pledged my heart and soul to Sky long before he knew me. If anything happened to this army that prevented me from getting in, I'd have thrown away my life," I answer, pride and truth resonating from my words. Lelena stares at me shocked for moment, then continues her questioning.
"What about your family? Wouldn't you return to them?" She says.
"My parents died when I was very young. I had to care for my little sister by myself. We eventually found a nice village to call home, but they all worshiped an evil and cruel god named Dianite. He wasn't happy that my sister and I didn't worship him. He threaten to destroy the village unless I killed my sister and worshipped him. The villagers forced me to kill her, but I still refused to worship Dianite. The town was destroyed, but Dianite sparred me so that I could never see my family again," I sigh, the pain I once felt from that story numb. We continue walking along in silence. A thought enters my head. I won't die until Dianite does. That monster stole my mortality and now I'll never die! I almost run face first into the giant double doors of the castle.
"Oh, hi, Clay!" A guard I knew, named Andrew greets me, "What are you doing here so late?"
"I came to meet with Seto. I have someone he'll be glad to meet," I reply as he opens the massive doors.
"Oh, yes. Of course. He said he was going to be in the library. If you're lucky he'll still be there. If not, then head right back here, I'll find a place for you two to sleep for the night," Andrew instructs, stepping aside to let me and Lelena through.
