Two days passed in a blur and Yusuf hasn't
said anything to me and it was killing me. But I won't just sit watch him accuse me. He didn't want to talk to so I wasn't going to talk to him either.Adda Shaheedah and some of the family were coming to visit today since we haven't met since they relocated back to Nigeria. The Adda Shaheedah I know would surely sense something and I didn't want any talk. The men should be talked to too sometimes. We women aren't always the bigger persons.
I moved on with my daily activities. From arranging the house to cleaning Hibba up. I made lunch for my guests before their arrival and also put Hibba to sleep. The house was so queit that for the one hundred and one time I miss Zainab soo much. If I was bored she was the one I normally called, she always had time for me no matter what. I stood beside Hibbas crib and there, I saw the splitting image of Zee. Which means Hibba was beginning to look like me since Zee and I looked alike just that I was her 'oyinbo' version as people would always say.
I heard the click of keys in the key hole and I knew Yusuf was home. I watched him come inside the room but I didn't bother to look at him. I felt his gaze on me while I folded the laundry. Just in time, Hibba woke up and he went to her crib. He scooped her up in a dramatic way which made her to giggle.
Then he began to sing "Uhmmmm..... somebody's got a stinky booty, her name is Hibba and she made a poopy....... Somebody's got a stinky booty, her name is Hibba and Dad's on diaper duty......... Somebody's got a stinky booty and Daddy's gonna clean it up"
I couldn't help but smile at their little encounter. My heart melted at the sight of them. He brought out the changing mat and did everything neat neat. He picked her up again and they left the room.
I could hear voices in the living room and in no time the voices increased. I came down and met Adda Shaheedah, Adda Manga, Maryam, Mahmud, Fauziya and the kids. The kids ran to hug me and I was so happy to see them again. We exchanged pleasantries with everyone and it was all gist and fun before everyone started telling Maryam the pain of child birth. She was due in some weeks and was scared. Who wouldn't be?
"Faree I'm soo scared wallahi" she said when we went to the kitchen
"You'll be fine In Shaa Allah. All the pain will fade the moment you hold your cute child"
"What if I don't survive it, that means I won't get to see my child"
"If you aren't going to say khair just keep shut. You'll survive it In Shaa Allah"
"Ameen. Now enough about me. What's up with you and Yaya?"
"What happened to us?" I asked pretending not to know what's going on
"You can't lie to me darling. Everyone could feel the tension in the air. You guys are usually all lovey dovey by secretly staring at each other in public. But today, you guys kept avoiding each other. Something is really wrong and you should spill. A problem shared is half solved "
