When I wake up Levi is still watching Benji like a hawk. He notices me moving and focuses on me. I offer up a smile and check on Benji. It hasn’t been that long since I fell asleep. Benji is still out as well. In fact his mouth is open and a small bit of drool is starting to trail down from his mouth
I grab up a paper towel and fix that. My poor baby. At least he’s sleeping peacefully now. Earlier in the day Levi and I both noticed that he was having a bit of trouble breathing when he was trying to sleep. It worried me to no end until finally the medicines kicked in and he went to sleep.
“Here.” Levi hands me a cup of coffee, to which I take it from him.
“Thank you. When did you step out to go get coffee?”
“He didn’t, I did.” Nac steps back into the room to check Benji’s medical stats again, “I was pretty sure that I remembered how you liked your coffee; ¾ creamer and ¼ coffee.”
Neither I nor Levi laugh at his attempted joke.
He clears his throat, “Well, anyways, it looks like his vitals are all in order and the medication has definitely kicked in. He’ll be able to be released sometime early tomorrow. Once again, if you need anything just press the button there for us.”
“I know, thank you.” I say over the rim of my coffee cup.
Nac awkwardly dips his head and exits out of the room. I watch the door well after he’s closed it. I don’t know what he’s up to but I do plan on keeping my guard up. Surely this is more than a little awkward for him as well. I mean his ex-fiancé and biological son are in the hospital and he’s having to wait on them hand and foot. Surely he’s got something going on in his head.
“Are you okay?” Levi’s fingers brush my arm.
I look over at his tired gaze, “I’m just stressed out because of… everything. I’m less tense than I was though. How long have you been awake?”
“I haven’t been to sleep.”
My eyes widen in shock, we’ve been here in this room for over nine hours already. That’s tacked on top of our early 7:00 wake up call. Adding all of that up he’s been awake for almost twenty-four hours straight.
“Levi! Aren’t you exhausted?”
He shrugs, “Insomnia.”
“I didn’t know you had insomnia.”
“It’s not something that usually comes up.” Is his reply.
I shake my head and take a sip of my coffee, “Did he at least bring you a cup?”
“No. Claimed he had no idea of how I liked my coffee but offered to show me the way to the machine.”
I hold out my cup to him, “Would you like some then? I really don’t mind sharing.”
He takes the cup from my hand and puts it to his lips. It’s approximately a few seconds later when he makes a screwed up face and almost spits it back out, “That is the worst tasting shit I think I’ve ever had. It’s so sweet.”
“Well, I don’t like coffee that much. Massive amounts of creamer is the only thing that makes it tolerable.”
“Disgusting.” He murmurs before muttering something in French.
