Des's POVI brought my shivering mother to a nearby bakery. I knew the owner and she was very kind towards me.
Hoping Mdm. Helen wouldn't mind feeding two more mouths, I told my mother to wait outside for a moment after wrapping my velvet scarf around her neck.
When I pushed open the door and rang the bell, Mdm. Helen was locking the cash register. Her back was turned to me.
Mdm. Helen was a gentle and generous soul, always ready to help whole-heartedly. Her son was a rich businessman and so she never needed to worry about finance. She worked at the cafe to spend her free time so she wouldn't be so lonely and I , for one, live to chat with her.
She was tall and strong for an old lady. Her spirit had kept her youthful enthusiasm and beauty. With her dark brown hair pulled back in a bun, she looked as if she was in her thirties.
"Hello, dear! I'm closing soon but if you need anything, I'm free 24/7. What do you need? I could- oh dear! Oh dear god, what happened? Oh quickly dear, have a seat."
Astonishment flashed across her face, along with genuine concern, the moment her eyes landed on my bruised state. She rushed hurriedly to the storeroom and brought out the first aid kit.
Before she could force me to sit, I quickly explained how my mother was waiting outside. She assured me to rest while she fetched her.
I rubbed my hands against the hot surface of the mug filled with hot cocoa. I shot up the moment Mdm. Helen showed my mother to the booth.
"What is it dears? If you don't mind sharing, of course."
Mdm. Helen gave my mother another mug of hot cocoa and treated our wounds gently.
I spent the whole night explaining my mother's and my needs but I didn't add in the little truth about the abusive man. Instead, I said our house was robbed and we were I involved in an accident on our way back.
She seemed to have bought it because she told us to stay with her in her a apartment just across the street as long as we needed.
I owed Mdm. Helen a debt and I would do anything to fulfill it.

Maddy's POV
Trent rushed out of the room after the shrill shriek had ended.
I shifted uncomfortably while waiting for Trent to enter the room. My thoughts returned to Percy and Destiny.
What had made them so distant?
The sound of a person entering my wad snapped me out of my deep thoughts.
"Sorry, a little girl just saw a big spider land on her hand and she freaked out. Hey, are you okay?"
"I'm alright. Just a little shaken up. Sorry about the whole accident thing and your car. I'll pay for all the expenses."
He chuckled while shaking his head. He sat by my bed and tapped my nose gently.
"No worries. And I, as a charming gentleman, cannot have a damsel in distress to repay me for damages done to my carriage."
He shot me a quick wink which spread warmth all over me from my chest. I laughed silently, still wondering about Dessy.
"Oh and by the way, someone dropped this off for you."
He took out a small paper bag from his pocket of his doctor's coat and handed it to me.
'From: SirLionStupid
To: MadTipToes'It was scribbled across the bag and I stifled a giggle.
"By someone, you mean you."
"Now, come on, Mads, don't ruin the surprise. It's a lot better to know you in reality than over some random virtual game."
I smiled at him when he made a pouty face which didn't annoy me but made me...happy.
The moment I open the package, my mouth fell open with surprise. My heart was filled with escalating joy.
Whipping my head to look at Trent's face, I had so many questions. I noticed the tug at the corner of his lips until it turned into a smirk because of my reactions.
"Told you I was charming."

1 month later...
><><><><><><><><><><><><Des's POV
I moved in with Patricia, as Mdm. Helen had told me to address her as, with my recovering mother.
My heart fluttered with warmth whenever I saw my mother less troubled, laughing away with Patricia as they watched comedies.
She was gaining back weight and beauty. However, this was my only source of pure happiness.
Percy was in most of my classes and it was not easy to avoid his sympathetic stare.
"Now, I will match you up with a partner according to your grades to compete this project during the summer break."
Many students groaned at the either the fact that they had to work together or that they had to actually work.
I drummed my fingers against my desk at the corner of the class.
"Melissa with Jack, Hilary with Joey, Michael with Penelope, Destiny with Percy."
My fingers stopped drumming against the wooden panel and my heart stopped for a moment or so.
Lips parted in surprise, I shot a quick glance behind me at Percy, who had the same reaction to me.
Fate seemed to hate my existence.
He looked back at me before giving me another pitiful look and I immediately turned away.
"This is final. No changes! Class dismissed."
The crowd of students keen to leave fought to exit the room.
I walked slowly to the door with Percy behind me while nervously playing with my sleeve, trying to let him walk past by me without a conversation.
Unfortunately, he was extremely stubborn.
"Why are you avoiding me?"
I walked out of class with Percy following me. I sucked in a deep breathe.
"I'm not avoiding you. I'm just...not not avoiding you."
"It's the same thing, Des."
"No, it's not."
My heart skipped a beat when he called Des. I finally mustered up the courage to look up from my shoes to his face.
The usual spark in his blue eyes were dull but lit up again, along with his dimples, when he look right into my eyes.
He was wearing casual dark blue jeans and a simple red shirt with the white word, 'Like'.
I smiled a little when I saw him smile like the fool he was.
"Where?"
I forgot about the project already.
"You know the cafe opposite the library."
He nodded, never breaking eye contact. Drowning deep into his eyes, I forced myself to look down at my sneakers again.
"Yeah, so what time ? Are you free tomorrow from twelve to four?"
"Yup, see you there. Bye."
I ran down the school corridor to the bus station after pushing the yellow, wooden doors abruptly.
That night, I tossed and turned in my bed. My thoughts fixated on Percy's blue shimmering eyes before drifting into sleep.
