Des's POV

She just closed her eyes and fell.

Luckily, the stranger caught her in the nick of time.

He carried her bridal style and place her in the back of his car.

I followed closely behind.

I was still taken back by what happened and still suffering from shock.

But I've never let my emotion overcome my sensibility.

I sat at the back with Maddy, her head on my lap, as I texted Percy .

P: What?!

D: Can't talk. Reached hospital.

P: See u in 5.

The stranger opened the door and appeared with a wheel chair.

He put Maddy's body gently in the wheelchair but in an awkward position.

"Go get a doc."

I rushed to the counter and threw one last glance at Maddy, who is being pushed to a ward by a nurse, before hearing Percy's voice.

"Destiny! Wha-what-"

By the time he reached me, he was panting. Bending down to catch his breathe, I could see his face was flustered.

Watching him finally stand straight, I led him to sit on the waiting bench.

The stranger had disappeared earlier but now he came back.

He marched up the ward and opened the door.

I stood up," Uhmm, the nurse said only the do-"

A nurse wearing the usual faded pink uniform called out to him.

"Doctor Trent!"

Quickening her paces, she gave him a document.

"On my table."

"But the board insists-"

"On. My. Table."

She nodded and ran to the end of the corridor into the-

Percy wrapped his arms around me and we both got lost in our thoughts. I was so worried for Madelyn. Although I've known her for only a day, she's the closest to a sister I'll ever get.

"How's she?"

I didn't notice that Trent had already came out of the room.

He gave Percy an assuring smile," Shock. That's all."

Percy let out a long sigh.

I turned my attention towards Percy again.

His hair was messed, his face was red and he was sweating.

Realizing I was staring at him, he shot me that perfect smile but this time with a trace of anxiety in it," Ran here."

Oh.

Trent asked me openly," Who's he?"

"Couldn't you just ask me?"

As Percy spoke, he inched closer to me, jealousy in his words.

I giggled madly.

"Well, I didn't see you when the girl ran to the middle of the streets and made me crash my truck so I won't hit her. Only this beautiful lady."

I blushed and bit my tongue to stop myself from bursting into laughter after I saw Percy's face glowing with envy.

"Kidding. You can see the patient now."

He winked at me and walked to his office.

Wait, he was the-

Feeling Percy's hand squeezing mine, I turned my eyes away from his office to see Percy staring at me.

I rolled my eyes at him.

He squeezed my hand harder, making me wince.

He let go," Sorry."

Faint pink streaked his face as he looked down to the ground.

I giggled a little but soon we were brought back to harsh reality.

Uneasiness rose in me when Madelyn was lying down on a faded pink bed, looking pale and sickly.

Percy frowned and rubbed his face. Guilt flashed across his face.

"I should have been there."

Attempt to soothe him, I gently leaned my head on his shoulder. His warm palm pressed on my left shoulder as he pulled me closer. Tingles shot up my spine . I loved every moment of it.

But I need to tell him.

Taking a deep breathe of medicine scented air, I pulled away and looked at Percy right in the eyes.

"Percy. I...uhmm...I just- I"

"So far all I'm getting is 'I' right now. Just spill it out, you know I hate indirect hints."

"Okay-"

Gulp.

"Percy, this thing between us, I think we should take a break."
