I woke up with a sigh, rolling over to the other side of the bed. I picked up my phone to see multiple missed calls from Colby, all of them from about an hour ago. I quickly rang him back, worry coursing through my veins. He answered.
(S- Sam C- Colby)
S- Hello?
C- Hey (sniffle).
S- Hey, what's wrong? Are you crying? Why were you calling me?
C- I-I was calling you b-because my b-brother was j-jumped last n-night and h-h-he's in hospital and I d-don't know what to d-do, my d-dad's there n-now.
S- Oh shit, oh my god, where are you?
C- A-at home.
S- I'm coming.
C- T-To me?
S- Yeah, obviously. I need to be with you. I need to make sure you're ok and that you're safe.
C- T-Thank you.
S- It's what I'm here for, baby.
C- (quiet, relieved sigh)
S- I've just got some joggers and shoes on, I'm coming now.
C- Ok.
S- I'll be there in a sec, my phone's gonna die , I forgot to charge it last night so I'm gonna hang up.
C- O-Ok.
S- See you in a sec.
C- S-See ya.I hung up and slammed my foot down on the pedals, the tires screeching. I turned the corners, being directly on the speed limit. I reached his street in minutes, quickly parking outside of his house. I jumped out and locked the door by the keys, running up the path to his house. I lifted my hand to knock on the door and he opened it before I could, throwing his arms around me. I wrapped mine around him tightly, trying to make him feel safe.
"Hey, you ok?" I mumbled, moving away after a few more moments to see his face. He shook his head and tears filled his eyes. It was like when you're just holding it together, and then someone asks if you're ok, and then it all just comes out.
"Shh, shhh, go inside, c'mon, it's cold baby," I sighed, closing the door behind me as he shuffled into the living room. I sat down on the black, cushiony sofa and patted my lap.
"C'mere, tell me exactly what happened," I smiled softly, him sitting on my lap. He didn't weigh much, and he had a very small frame.
"S-So.." he explained everything. His brother was on his way home from his friends the previous night, and on the way home, he was jumped by two guys, a few years older than him, with knives. Not even guns. Knives. They stabbed him four times, twice each. Nobody knows why. It wasn't a targeted attack, but not even the police are sure what drove them to do it. Colby sniffled when he finished talking, putting his head in my chest.
"He's only 14, Sam. I don't want him to die," he sobbed, clutching onto my hoodie.
"I'm sure he'll be ok, baby. It might not seem it now, but when he recovers, it'll all be ok. I promise. And we'll skip school today, ok? I don't care what anybody thinks, you are not stable enough to go in today. And I need to make sure you're ok," I mumbled, holding him close to me.
"O-Ok," He sniffled softly, holding onto my hoodie like his life depended on it.
"You're ok, ok? You're safe," I said softly, playing with his soft purple hair.
"I-I know," he mumbled, loosening his grip and wrapping his arms around me extremely tightly.
"You tired?" I asked, feeling warmth radiating from him.
"Mhm. I haven't slept since yesterday morning," he mumbled, slightly slurred.
"Do you wanna go upstairs to your bedroom?" I asked, kissing his head softly.
"Mhm," he hummed, realising how truly tired he was.
"C'mon then," I said softly, picking him up. He wrapped his legs around my waist and his arms around my neck. He was wearing my Supreme hoodie and plain, baggy black joggers. I carried him up the stairs carefully, walking into his bedroom.
"Bed please," he whined, suddenly acting like a child.
"Ok, ok," I mumbled, kissing his cheek as I placed him onto the bed.
"Lay with me?" He asked, grabbing my sleeve and looking up at me with big eyes.
"Of course, I wasn't gonna leave you anyway," I smiled gently, laying down next to him.
"I love you," He said without hesitating, kissing me.
"I love you too," I mumbled, kissing him back.~
