{this story takes place in Avengers: Endgame during the five years after The Snap/Blip and after Thanos was "killed". set in the Avengers Compound. for the sake of the story, you're Nat's biological twin (not identical) sister}

The air was cold and damp, the sky dark and miserable and the grass in the park was a dull, uninspiring green. The steady rhythm of your feet hitting the sidewalk was in sync to the loud music blaring through your earphones, blocking out the outside world. It's half a world actually, you thought.

As you jogged out of the park and onto the road towards the compound, a thought entered your head. What would've happened if someone was having a wedding and both the groom and the bride dusted away? Would the rest of the wedding party carry on? Or would they stop the wedding despite the probable immense expense they'd used to organise it?

You shook your head in sorrow and paused your music, taking out your earphones. You placed in the key code to the gate and let yourself into the compound, waving at the security camera. You knew Natasha would be watching it. You imagined her slight smile.

As you reached the front doors, you came to a halt, bracing yourself for the misery within. You closed your eyes for a moment before pushing the door open with a click. You made your way to the kitchen, where you found Natasha moping and looking sad, as usual. Your heart clenched. You placed your phone on the table and walked over to her, placing a hand on her back. She glanced at you before continuing with the making of her sandwich.

"Hey, Nat," you said softly. "How're you doing?"

"Fine, thanks, Y/N."

You gave her a knowing look. She ignored it and offered you her sandwich. You took a bite and gave it back to her. You walked into the lounge and collapsed onto the couch. You leaned your head on your hands and sighed.

"Are you fine?" Nat asked skeptically.

You looked at her. She sat down behind her desk and began eating her lunch.

"No, I'm not."

She shrugged. "At least you'll admit it."

"Admit what?" A familiar voice asked.

You cracked a smile at the man leaning against the bookshelf. He walked towards you, a small smirk on his face as you stood from the couch. Natasha put her sandwich down and threw him a wave.

"Admit our undying love for you, Cap," she said playfully. "Didn't you know?"

"Hey, Steve," you murmured, reaching for him as he rolled his eyes at Nat, amused.

"Hey, sweetheart," he replied, wrapping his arms around you.

You closed your eyes. Feeling his steady breathing in his warm chest when you hugged him comforted you to no end. Whenever you'd been in doubt, felt remotely sad or even slightly unsafe in the past, Steve was the first person you went to. It happened more than ever these days.

"How was the support group?"

He let go of you and glanced at Nat, still holding your waist. His dejected sigh echoed in your ears.

"You know, I keep telling everybody they should move on," he said, glancing between the two women in the room. "Grow. Some do, but not us."

Nat lifted her feet onto the desk and shrugged her shoulders. "If we move on, who does this?"

Steve closed his eyes. "Maybe it doesn't need to be done."

Nat looked at you. The two of you shared a look. You opened your mouth.
