{this story is set after Thor: Ragnarok but before Avengers: Infinity War, but Thor and Loki don't get attacked by Thanos and Thanos does not exist. takes place in the White House. Loki can read minds}
Being an undercover Asgardian on earth was more challenging than you'd anticipated. However, it was even more challenging to complete the mission you'd been sent there to complete. You sighed through your painted lips, glancing around the crowded ballroom in the White House. You narrowed your eyes at each of the guests, searching. High-pitched laughter and irrelevant chatter reached your ears as you listened carefully for a particular set of footsteps. You curled your hair behind your ear and focused.
"More champagne, miss?" A waiter asked.
You snapped your gaze to him. He blinked and took a breath in.
"Thank you, good sir," you said, voice low and enticing. You heard his heartbeat increasing rapidly. You couldn't help smiling. You adored playing with the mortals on earth.
"Of course, miss," he muttered, eyes fixated on your lips and teeth.
He absentmindedly handed you a glass of champagne and you took it, purposely brushing your fingers against his. You felt a surge of satisfaction swirl around you as his lips parted with a small gasp.
"Oh, dear," an arrogant voice said, followed by the vaguely irritating body belonging to Tony Stark. You rolled your eyes and set your drink down.
"Try not to sweep every waiter off their feet, will you?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at the server still gaping at you.
"Fine. They do enjoy it, you know," you informed him with a wink. He breathed out and looked away from you, eliciting a wide smirk to spread over your face. "Run along now, little one," you cooed to the waiter, taking a sip from your champagne.
He nodded and walked away with a skip in his step, looking back at you multiple times.
"God, he's smitten," Tony sighed. "Look, you were invited here as a plus one for The Avengers. Don't embarrass us, will you? A rogue enchantress is the last thing we need right now."
You downed the last of your drink and stood up straight. "Of course, Tony. I'm here to help The Avengers." And perform Queen Frigga's last command, you added in your head. But that has nothing to do with you.
"Exactly," he agreed. He glanced at Steve Rogers who was leaning against the wall a few meters away, sneaking glances at you in his black tuxedo and bow-tie. "I think Cap's got his eye on you, Y/N. Look after him. He's still pining over the last one."
You tutted, running a hand over the silky fabric of your dress, keeping an eye on Steve as Stark left. Steve's gaze snapped to your hand as it slipped over your stomach to your hip and came to a rest on your thigh. You turned your head to him with an eyebrow cocked. He looked away.
Mortals are cowards, you thought cheekily, smiling.
"They truly are, my lady."
A clip-clop of new leather shoes tapped on the wooden floor to your right. You snapped your stare to the black-haired man now towering over you in his jet-black suit and coat. Your eyes widened and your heart skipped a beat. Your smug smile flew off your face. His eyes sparkled, the mischievous glow snatching your gaze.
"Loki," you murmured, eyes widened to the shape of moons. I was not expecting this, you thought. "What are you doing here?"
The God of Mischief narrowed his eyes at you. He crossed his arms and leaned back onto one foot. The smell of him was overwhelming you but you tried your hardest not to think about it, fearing he'd see it in your thoughts.
