STORYTIME!
You sat at your desk, reviewing your little book of plans for each of your lovely students in the Golden Deer House... and then some that you are trying to recruit like Dorothea because she's heckin cute. While you were writing out something for Claude and debating wether he should go on horseback or on a Pegasi because he has an affinity for flying for goddess-knows-what reason Hilda came up to your desk. Oh? What does she want now? Five golden coins that she was trying to find an excuse to get out of fighting in the upcoming mission.
"Heyyyyy Professor (name)! I was wondering if you wanted to talk for a little bit about the mission coming up."
Called it.
"Of course, Hilda. Take a seat. Wait, no that would be awkward with the way my desk is... Here, follow me to one of the desks and we can talk there. I was hoping to to discuss something with you as well involving where the lessons are taking you. But whatever you want to say can be said first. Now we can have a seat."
You held the chair out for Hilda, who happily sat down and allowed herself to be pushed in closer to the desk. Manners are everything if you want to be respected after all. Also Hilda is heckity heckin Cute. You really liked her, but you wished she could see the potential that you see in her and stop trying to be so lazy about life. She never wants to fight and she always want to be feminine and get guys' attention. You never understood it, but you always figured that was the way her father and brother raised her to be: the perfect trophy wife. Then again, her brother sent her here. It's quite the perplexing mystery.
"Well I was wondering if for the upcoming mission you can push me off to the sidelines. I'm a fragile maiden who just holds everyone back! I should be the pretty cheerleader on the sidelines, giving motivation to everyone and not having to get all sweaty on the battlefield! That's not what I'm for! What do ya say, can I sit out this one?"
You sighed. There she goes again. You never understood it. She is one of your strongest units and the best person you have ever seen with an axe, rivaling Edelgard directly and managing to surpass her. You personally would like her as a flier of some sort, wether pegasus or wyvern didn't matter to you. If she's coukd soar across the sky and just slash her foes with ease then she would be a true force to be reckoned with. Besides, you can totally see her being cute with a pegasus and caring deeply for their health and hygiene.
"No, you cannot. In fact, I actually want you to start working on something more. You know how I've had you taking flight and horseback lessons with Marianne, Lorenz, and Claude? I want you to try training atop that Pegasi today. Your bind with her has grown, and I see vast potential in you as a pegasus fighter."
Hilda gave you a blank stare. You know how she has been slipping to the tables to go brush that one pegasus's coat and put little cute bows in their mane. You find it quite cute how much she cares, and you hadn't a clue why she would want to hide it. Hilda pressed her lips into a thin line and averted her eyes to the desk. Was something the matter? Did she not like that idea? You frowned, folding your hands together like a bridge and resting your chin atop of them. You watched Hilda's expression curiously as she spoke her concerns.
"I dunno, Professor. A Pegasus Knight? That sounds like a lot of work. I think it's be far too much for me to deal with. I'm just a fragile flower of a maiden, I shouldn't even be fighting in the First place. Are you sure you can't just sit me out? I'd be far more useful as a cheerleader for the boys."
That was not the answer you were hoping for. You fixed your posture. You had been preparing the exact words you want to say to Hilda to motivate her whenever she needed it the most, now seems to be that time. You've had enough of her nonsense about being delicate.
"Hilda, you are aware that a woman can be strong too, and people will still love her and treat her like a princess even if she can fend for herself right? Not every man finds entire dependence on him attractive, you are aware of that aren't you? If you are trying to get out of working just so you can seem attractive then it isn't working because that isn't what makes you attractive. If a man only finds you attractive because you rely on him then that man is nothing but a pig who doesn't deserve you. You can be strong and you can still be cute and attractive to anyone you want to be attractive too. Some men, some people, find strength in itself entirely attractive."
Hilda opened her mouth to speak, however you held up a finger. You aren't done speaking to her. You. Aren't. Done.
"And if you don't want to work simply because you are a slothful person then that's an entirely different issue we can resolve by finding topics that interest you and allow yourself to indulge in those, even if they aren't your strongsuits. Like becoming a support unit via faith magic and still ride atop a pegasus, I know you adore that pegasus so don't even lie to me. However if your entire reason for not wanting to become a gallant warrior you can oh so easily become is to become more attractive to men, women, or anyone else then you are an ignoramus. An airhead. And being an airhead isn't attractive to anyone. Though if this is a familial issue or how you were raised then I need to spend extra time after lessons to erase the preposterous thought from your head that all women need to be feminine and dependent to be wanted or loved."
Hilda has her hands together in her lap under her desk. You could tell because she was staring right at them. She was probably twiddling her thumbs together. She refused to meet your eyes and her face was flushed a bright pink that put her pigtails and her gorgeous eyes to shame. You have had enough of her putting herself down. She needs to know she has the potential to be whoever she wants to be and still be loved. She needs to know this and believe this herself. You will not stop fighting her behavior until she understands this and embraces who she is.
"Do you really thing all that strongly about me, (name)? Do you really think my father and brother will still love me even if I'm not entirely in their care? Do you think someone will love me if I don't rely on them? Because I don't. Nobody will. Nobody would care unless I depended on them anyway."
You slammed your hands on the table, infuriated that she would think like this. She jumped in her chair and snapped her eyes up, looking directly at you. Good. You got her attention.
"Listen to me, Hilda, I promise that everyone will still care and love you even if you can hold your own. You should hold your own so people don't have to worry sick about you or think that their relationship with you is toxic. Your brother sent you here to make you learn that very same lesson, you know that? He wanted you to learn that you can be your own individual and still get all the love you want to get in this life. The sooner you learn that, the Sooner you can become strong and the sooner you can realize that you can be happy even if you're not the pretty little flower you think you have to be. You don't have to be. You can be you, and that's plenty enough to love."
Hilda looked into your eyes as you stared intently into hers. You tried to read all the emotions and all the conflict she had. You watched her slowly begin to smile, her body language opening up after a short minute of silence. Did she finally learn? Did it really take you yelling at her and slamming your fists on a table in pure fury for her to finally understand that she can be more than a trophy wife to earn love?
"You know, I can try riding a pegasus and fighting today. But I can't promise I'm going to be good or anything. Oh, and thanks for the lesson Professor (name). I'll try to remember that in the future."
Hilda stood up, pushed in her chair, and left the classroom. How peculiar. You pursed your lips together, that reaction like a flip of a switch. Hilda was an odd one, but you were fond of her all the same. The fact she was going to try was progress, and you were looking forward to being next to her through every baby step she takes.

Every time Hilda calls herself a delicate flower I just wanna tell her that she is much more than that and she can do great things and I believe in her and she is so amazing like I want her to believe in herself. I know her character is supposed to be lazy and I'm looking in too deep to the reason behind her actions but yeah.
Internet hugs and blow kisses!
