Idle Hoshido [Kaden x NonBinary!Reader]

Request one of two by a lovely GlitzerWrites! The specific was a feminine NonBinary Reader so we are gonna try our best!

Kaden is highkey best birthright husband and anyone who disagrees with me can fite me. The second I recruited him he was just so cool and I fell in love. He was the first person I, myself, ever S Supported in Fire emblem fates (because I played birthright first) and I love him so heckin much.

STORYTIME!

You never lived in somewhere peaceful before. Your life was always face paced and there was always a new crisis for you to solve back in your hometown. But now look at where you are. Hoshido is such a serene place, much unlike where you grew up. After the war your services as a basara weren't needed anymore. The small legends that's spread from village to village about the genderless fighter dissipated and nobody remembered your face, just like you wanted. The stains of blood were no longer spread across your face and palms. You can lean back, watch the sun, and enjoy the pacifist country's sunrise with no worries. 

"Hey (name), care if I join you?"

You sat underneath a tree with orange and yellowing leaves, the changing of summer to autumn effecting the trees of this idle town within Hoshido's large boarders. The chieftain of the hoshidan-native species of Kitsune cheerily greeting you and asking to take a peaceful nap under this tree. The cool breeze felt nice on your nearly bare shoulders, you wearing nothing but a tank top and some loose, short bottoms. You never minded the traditionally feminine clothing.  You smiled at the beautiful fox.

"Of course you can. Here, have a seat."

A leaf fell from the tree into your lap as Kaden giddily sat next to you, his tail flickering back and forth with glee. He made sure the bark of the tree didn't prick him and give him any splinters and he made sure his muscles wouldn't be sore from having a bump of the tree giving him discomfort. You watched Kaden as he closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh, allowing himself to slouch and cross his left leg over his right, his tail curling around his thigh and resting between you and him. His ears lowered themselves slightly, showing that he was entering a calm bliss just as you had. 

"You know, you always pick the best napping spots (name). I don't care if everyone always found you weird, you're perfect to me and always will be. I'll find some way to repay you for letting me stay with you in this new cozy spot."

His smile was literal sunshine, warming your heart and forcing you to smile along with him. You couldn't help but laugh a little.

"I don't care how many times I have to tell you, but you do not have to repay me for something so trivial. I'm more than happy to be in your company and share every tranquil spot I find. Just being here with me is payment enough. It's sort of like a two way street. The only reason I tell you about these places is so that I can spend time with you. There's no reason to repay me when I'm already getting exactly what I want."

You leaned back, feeling the sunshine fall through the leaves and the intensity being withered down by the breeze and the coolness of autumn. Another few leaves fell in your hair, on your shoulder, and in your lap again. You were certain without looking thst one or two must've fallen onto Kaden as well. Autumn was your favorite season and always will be. The reason is exactly this. This idea of an Idle life was exactly what you wanted. This tranquility was something you have dreamed of since you were a child, something you dreamed of even before coming out as NonBinary. This is the future you worked towards building, and you adore it.

"Hey (name), what would someone call you if they marry you? Since you can't exactly be called a husband or wife. And would you wear a dress or a tuxedo? You don't have to answer if you want. I was just curious."

You looked over at Kaden. That came out of nowhere. He was still leaning back, but his tail was struggling to stay in place. It flickered back and forth like a cat who as watching it's prey before pouncing. He pretended to be nonchalant, but that gleam in his eye showed him that he really cared about this for some reason. There should be no reason why you can't answer his question. Actually this was something you we're thinking about to. Would being married fit into your perfect happily ever after? If you met the right person then yeah. Let's see...

"Well they'd call me their spouse. That is the gender neutral term for husband and wife after all. I also like how it sounds. I can be a House-Spouse and stay at home and live a calm, relaxing life with my partner. As for the wedding question I would probably wear the dress. A tuxedo sounds too stuffy and tight around my legs and long sleeves never were appealing to me. Most people in Hoshido do a kimono-style dress and tux but I always liked the wedding dress equivalent here. But I wanna know why you're asking. Is there a reason I should know about or...?"

Kaden sat up, cracking his knuckles and wearing his signature carefree grin. His nail perked up and he stretched his legs all the way out, his back no longer against the three. Those milky chocolate eyes of his, Why were the sparkling so? He obviously had a grand plan in order. Did this involve the payback thing? Because you already told him he doesn't need to pay you back for anything!

"Oh. No reason. Just planning something for later. Oh! And what's your favorite gemstone? That's also something I need to know! Err, I mean I'm curious about!"

You rose an eyebrow, starting to get suspicious. What was this fantastic fox planning? You saw no reason not to tell him, so you went ahead and told him.

"Well I like (birthstone) because, well, it's my birthstone. But I don't mind any other of the gemstones. They all shine the same and they're all really pretty. Seriously Kaden, is there a reason why you're asking me all these questions? Because now I'm curious about what's you're doing."

"Nope! No reason! You'll see later on. Oh, and (name)? Would you mind taking a nap with me? Maybe right here? We can stop leaning on the tree and lay in the grass and you can cuddle with my tail and I'll lean my head on your shoulder. Just something nice. If you do it I promise I'll get you something super nice tomorrow and you'll love it, that way we break out even! Whaddya say? Wanna take a cuddle nap with me? You don't have to if you don't want to. I just thought we'd both enjoy it."

He was starting to act weird. What was up with him? But that did sound nice. Kaden's tail is extremely plush and the perfect pillow/huggable sleepytime item. You nodded and scooted your body down so your head ended up on the grass. You pushed the leaves that fell from the tree and into you into  small pile to use as a pillow. Kaden grinned and scooted next to you, taking you in his arms and wrapping his tail around you. Well then, so much for a pillow and whatever dynamic Kaden described in his question. You Felt your heart pounding in your chest, but we're comforted when you heard Kaden's do the same. Your head was pressed against his chest, your ear right next to his heart. You wondered if he did that on purpose.Then you fell asleep. It was so peaceful, calm, tranquil, serene... life was just perfect.

What you didn't know is that Kaden giggled to himself, stroked your hair with his hand, and planned how he was going to propose to you tomorrow. He knew exactly what ring to get, exactly what dress to by, and the perfect place to ask you. Everything was set and ready. Tomorrow was going to be so great!
