STORYTIME!

You had to get away from the ballroom and found yourself here. The stars are quite lovely tonight and you felt the overwhelming urge to smile as you pointed out every constellation you recognized in your mind. Sothis was resting her eyes in the corner while you watched the stars twinkle and gazed at the lack of moon in the sky. Everybody loves the full moon, but does anyone ever take the time to appreciate the new moon? Not enough people. You always loved the new moon: it allows the stars to take center stage and shine like the spotlight rather than the limelight.

You turned around when you heard footsteps on the hollow ground of the top floor of the Goddess Tower. Ignatz tripped on himself somewhat and caught his balance before he faceplanted into the cobblestone. Good, he didn't hurt himself. Ignatz had some pink on his cheeks, the starlight pointing it out. You couldn't help but giggle at his clumsiness. Ignatz is quite the adorable guy, you were quite fond of this student in particular. That's why you told that guard you'd hope he'd come to you here after hearing the legend of this place.

"H-Hey Professor (name). Was the clamor of the ball too much for you?"

"Hmmm Yeah. It was quite loud in there. I do need some silence and alone time. But what's more is the view from up hear is absolutely stunning. Look at the sky. The stars are shimmering beautifully. It's very calming up here. I adore it."

You turned back to the sky, resting your arms on the window you placed yourself at. Ignatz walked up next to you, looking out to the sky beside you at your left. Out of the corner of your eye you watched his reaction, taking in the beauty of a moonless night sky. You felt his gaze shift to you, staring at your face for no reason. You had seen him do this before, but not to you. He would do this to Flayn and watch her do absolutely anything, taking in every feature and slight movement of her face. Was he doing this to you? Did it mean what you thought it meant? Right here on this night would be the perfect time for it.

"Is there something on your mind, Ignatz? I wonder, was there a reason that you followed me all the way out here?"

"Oh! Uh, yes! There was a reason! I was just, uh, feeling a bit crowded and I saw you heading out this way and I thought that coming here would be relaxing and refreshing. And, I, err, was hoping to be in your company while I'm over here. I do like being over here... Forgive me if I am being too forward Professor, but you look beautiful under the starlight."

Yep, you were right. It was for the exact same reason as he would do with Flayn before. But what made his interest shift? You bit your bottom lip to try and make the Honeyglow in your cheeks cease themselves. But the smile Ignatz wore in pride that me made you feel such a way was so worth it. He chuckled and averted his eyes, as though he was insecure about staring at you too much. Maybe that unrequited crush forced him to be like that. Maybe you should try and nudge this along.

"So it wasn't because of the Legend the Gatekeeper told me about. What a shame..."

Teasing him was always so fun. He's so easy to tease and how his face would glow a bright, beet red wasthe cutest thing. You were surprised his glasses didn't fog up because of it. Ignatz was turning his face away from you so you couldn't see it, but the tip so of his ears we're red enough to tell you that his cheeks bore the same fate. It was your turn to laugh, and it was up to you to further the conversation.

"The Legend of the Goddess Tower. A bachelor and an unpromised woman come to make a promise here on this night and the goddess blesses them to be happy together forever and to uphold that promise. That's what it was, right? It's such a beautiful, romantic legend is it not? It is tonight and I am an unpromised woman. You are a bachelor, right Ignatz? So if we were to promise ourselves we would have the blessing of the goddess and be together... forever. With certainty."

"Professor (name)! Don't say such things! You'll... you'll get my hopes up..."

You fixed your posture and stared into nothing, rerunning thst second sentence once more through your head. "Give his hopes up"...? Why would you ever do such a thing? You turned to look at him, his eyes clouded with melancholy. There was silence in the tower and it got to you. You placed your palm on Ignatz's back, not bothering to look him in the eye. You made him upset, that is the exact opposite of what you want.

"Give your hopes up? Ignatz... why would I want to do that? Everything I do has a reason, just like mentioning the legend. What if I wanted you to get hopeful? What if I want to make a promise like that with you? Because I do."

"You... do?"

"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I want to with such a kindred, artistic, compassionate, huggable, and keen man? You're perfect Ignatz, and you're the man I hope to marry one day. I would love nothing more and nothing less than to make a promise with you, here, tonight. I'd love to be your bride."

Ignatz paused for a moment before slowly taking your hands in his. He watched himself carefully, glancing up to your face for your reaction, as he entwined his fingers with yours. You smiled a gorgeous smile that rivaled the starlight's beauty and hummed under your breath, happy that Ignatz felt the same way you did. Sure, he may be shy and secluded, but you wanted to break him out of his shell and sicover who he was. You want to be by his side during his life and you want him to be by your side during yours. You want to be partners. You want to make a promise bound by the goddess to be eternally in bliss together. Ignatz cleared his throat, trying his best to form words perfect for this moment.

"Profes- No. Pardon me, (name), I, uh, stand here today under the stars and under the watch of the Goddess to make a vow to you. I shall never stray from you, nor shall I ever break your heart. I pledge myself to you for all eternity."

You turn the tables by taking ignatz's Hand and bending down on one knee, pressing a kiss to his knuckles. Hoes that for destroying gender norms? Ignatz is so cute. You're going to remember this moment forever and ever.

"Ignatz, until death do we part I promise myself to you as your wife. I shall always love you and devote myself to you as I hope you will do the same for me. May we walk together in this life from now on. As the goddess herself as my witness, I vow that if any harm shall come to you from me or if I am unable to protect or provide for you I shall take my own life. You are so very precious to me, Ignatz. I love you."

You stood up when you said the actual vow in the middle of your monologue there, looking deep into Ignatz's eyes. What was going on in his beautiful mind? You felt a strand of hair being tucked behind year ear. Ignatz cleared his throat softly, taking off his glasses and tucking them into his collar. Oh? What was he doing? What was he planning? Ignatz appeared to be summoning courage within himself to do something. When his hand traced itself from the side of your face to the back of your head you understood and closed your eyes.

And he kissed you.

Sothis awoke from her small nap to see the two of you Kissing. She chuckled and rolled her eyes. Of course. Ever since you heard of that legend from the gatekeeper you have been daydreaming about kissing Ignatz here. Though in your daydreams the moon was full and you both we're in much more formal attire. It's a shame. The ballgown you imagined was quite the golden beaut. But you were happy, Sothis could feel that. She smiled as you kissed the awkward boy, pulling apart to smile, breathe, and go back in again. The two of you were a lovely couple.

Sothis floated from her corner to the windowsill to see the sky, looking up at the stars and wondering about the future to herself. Tonight is such a lovely night. You were happy, Ignatz was happy, and Sothis herself was happy. If only every night could be like this.
