Keep in mind my low knowledge, I've seen like.. 5 episodes, and the movie. Most ideas so far are a sort of.. "Zim if he gave up taking over the world" sort of thing
After years of working trying to take over the planet with obviously failure, Zim realises the Tallest don't care and that the plan will never work, so he gives up and tries to be like a normal human. Dib notices and over the course of a few years, gives up trying to prove he's an alien. They end up in high school together, and have a few classes together as well. Eventually, Zim and Dib have to work on projects together and such and they actually start talking and becoming friends. Zim didn't have any friends, so clearly this was good. A while goes by and it's Junior year in high school, Zim and Dib are pretty good friends, but Dib has been having weird feelings about Zim now. He wasn't sure why though.
He talks to his sister, Gaz, and his dad about it. And he finally figures out what it is. Prom rolls around and Dib works up the courage to ask Zim to go with him, planning on asking him out. .... Zim has no idea what prom is, but agrees, on the condition that Dib explains it first.
