After the Florpus incident, Zim soon realised that his mission was pointless. He didn't have any reason to exist anymore. It took years but with Gir and Dib's help, he started to just live as a human, coming to accept the fact he wasn't an invader anymore and he failed his mission. He still had arguments with Dib from time to time, but most were just playful arguments. They'd finally become real friends.
Years went by and Zim grew anxious as Dib got older and things changed. They got jobs and Zim couldn't get one thing off his mind, the event growing closer every moment. Dib's inevitable death. He was only mortal after all, he wouldn't live as long as Zim would... Unless Zim did some thing about it. It would take weeks but he thought up an idea of making him and his sister Paks to wear as bracelets to keep them from dying.
