After the whole Florpus thing, and figuring out everything he'd ever done was pointless and amounted to nothing, along with the fact everyone hated him, Zim walks into the school like usual, but he looked a lot less smug than usual. He then announced to the class he was leaving, to which Dib was surprised. Of course, he gave the story that he parents were moving him to another town and a new school, but that was just to keep up the appearance that he was a normal human. After school, Dib went up and demanded answers, expecting it just to be another scheme to take over the planet.
Zim just shrugged a little "there's no point. Nothing I've done makes a difference. I've been a disappointment since I was born. I'm leaving. And not just school, I'm leaving earth." Of course Dib was still shocked. But even more so to find a box outside his bedroom door with his name on it the next day. He opened the box to find Gir, Zim's SIR unit, and a note explaining that he was leaving Gir with him, because he needed someone who actually deserved to be his master.
Dib had thought he was being dramatic or lying earlier, but that proved it. He took Gir back to Zim's now abandoned house, looking in the lab for anything useful. There were coordinates planned out for Zim to go to the furthest reaches of the galaxy to an uninhabited planet. Luckily, there was another spaceship in the lab, presumably a back up in case the other was destroyed. It took a few minutes to get it working before Dib and Gir took off into space after Zim, Gir helping with navigating since he could track Zim's ship.
