When I finally got home I felt completely and utterly exhasted. I threw my books and bag on to the ground and then collapsed into the couch. Jay followed me in and then disappeared in his room. I picked up my History book and pulled out a notebook and pencil. After I finished reading what I was supposed to for history I got out my favorite cook book and the crock pot. Tomorrow is Friday, finally. Also it is the day that my mom will be leaving on a business trip for a week. I usually like to make a nice meal for my her before she leaves.
I turned to her favorite meal in the book, Navaho tacos and put the meat in the crock pot so it will be ready for her at eight. I got out my ipod and turned it up all the way to Some Nights, by Fun., and started singing to it as loud as I could even though I don't really know the words.
"Will you shut up?" Jay yelled over the music, walking into the kitchen.
"No!" I laughed, "Dance with me!" I teased.
"You are so wierd," my brother muttered, "can I please leave?" I turned the music down and asked where to. "I dunno maybe Jon's house," He answered starting to walk away.
"But I am making dinner," I complained.
"Please? I'll be home in time I promise," Jay persuaded, "Why do you care anyways?"
"We never eat together anymore, and mom is going to leave on her trip tomorrow," I pouted. I was starting to feel really lonely home by myself all the time. Jay made a face at me and started begging to leave again. The rule is that if mom is gone than I am in charge and Jay has to get permission from me before he leaves. Otherwise he would always be gone and we wouldn't be able to find him because he never answers his phone or texts, I think he just ignores it on purpose.
"I guess you can, but," I added before he got too excited, "you have to be home at six."
"Why six?" He moaned, "Mom doesn't even get off work until seven thirty or something like that."
"Because I said so! Now go before I make it five thirty," I threatened smiling. I am starting to act a lot more like a mom to Jay than a sister.
"Okay bye," He raced out the door and hopped on his skate board. I would have offerred to drive him if he would have waited.
I turned the music back on after a few minutes because the silence was killing me. I called my mom after I had ever thing ready and cooking to make sure she really will be here at eight.
"Hey Mia," my mom answered. Her voice sounded stressed, but I could tell that she was trying to sound happy for my sake.
"Hi mom! Um I was just making sure you were still gonna be home at eight?" I asked her.
"Hmm, well I was thinking that I would stay in a little later to get ready for tomorrow. Why?"
"I was hoping that you were getting off early." I told her suddenly feeling dissapointed. "I am making Navaho tacos for you, and I even got Jay to come home around six so he could be here with us."
"That sounds really nice honey, but I think that I won't be able to get off until ten, maybe I could work super fast and be back by nine." She told me. I started to feel frustrated tears come to my eyes. I was really starting to get excited about this family dinner, we haven't eaten together since Jay's birthday which was two months ago.
"Okay," I said trying not to sound too upset. My mom doesn't need something else to feel bad about. "Maybe we can do it when you get back."
"That sounds like a great plan, I'm sorry Mia but I really need to go now bye!" She hung up.
"Bye I love you," I mumbled and went back to check on the beans, even if my mom isn't going to eat with me I will still force Jay.
After the food was stirred and the beans were simmering, I started to get a little antsy. What should I do with myself? I thought feeling extremely bored. I pulled out my phone and started texting Hey to almost everyone on my contacts. I knew that Emma wouldn't reply because she is at pratice for the drill team. But I was hopping that Lizzie or Claire would answer.
Hey, my phone buzzed. Yes! I thought feeling relived. I looked to see who it was from and saw that is was Liam. Liam? I didn't even know that I sent one to him.
Vas Happenin? I texted back feeling thrilled that I had someone to talk to.
Just sitting at home, being bored, trying to figure out this stupid chem hw. you? Was his response. I laughed.
I am SUPER bored! Do you want some help with your homework? I asked hoping for some company.
Yeah thanks! Should I come to your house or do you wanna come to mine? Liam asked.
I grinned feeling happy again Can I come to yours? I really need to get out of the house!
