Thirty minutes later, Bellamy finally returned to the ship with Clarke. As soon as the hatch door creaked open, Lincoln screamed as he fought against the chains that spread out his arms and legs like a starfish. Fear filled Clarke's expression as she stumbled back, but Octavia only rolled her eyes. This was the hundredth time Lincoln had an outburst, and it was starting to get old.

"Don't worry, he's restrained," Athena assured as she rose to her feet, and walked toward Clarke.
"I knew that Mount Weather controlled reapers, but I had no idea they created them," Clarke sputtered as she examined Lincoln's violent thrashing.
"Can you help him?" Octavia asked, her tone pleading as she stepped toward Clarke.
Clarke sighed, her eyes still on Lincoln. "No promises."

Athena, Octavia, and Bellamy circled behind Clarke pointing flashlights at Lincoln. James stood to the side with his rifle aimed for Lincoln. His shot would be lethal enough to stop Lincoln, but not kill him.

"Shine the light on his neck," Clarke said.

Athena did as she was told. Lincoln growled, showing his blood stained teeth as he twisted his head away. He hissed at the blinding light and squeezed his eyes shut. Two red dots a few inches apart marked his neck.

"Needle marks," Athena quaked. "They drugged him."

At that exact moment Lincoln roared as he finally managed to break out of his chains. James fired a bullet, but Lincoln quickly tackled him to the ground. Lincoln growled and snarled as he wrapped his hands around James's neck. James choked for air as he clawed at Lincoln's hands.

"No!" Athena yelled as she leaped onto Lincoln's back.

Athena looped the chains around Lincoln's neck, and pulled. A yell slipped through her gritted teeth. Lincoln shouted in frustration as he staggered to his feet. He continued to shout as he scratched at the chains. He slammed his back against the wall a few times, and Athena winced as she felt her back bones shift and crackle.

With one final slam against the wall, Lincoln had finally managed to fling Athena off his back. Athena gasped as she dropped to the floor on her side. She whipped out her knife and quickly jumped to her feet, prepared for Lincoln's attack. But the grounder had crumpled to the floor in a wheezing mess.

Bellamy had slammed the shock baton onto Lincoln's back. Lincoln was unconscious once again. Athena panted as she slid down against the wall. Bellamy kneeled before her and gently cupped her cheek. He raised his eyebrows and Athena nodded.

Everyone's sorrowful gaze rested on Lincoln. Octavia hesitantly crawled toward him, and reached out a shaky hand. When Lincoln didn't burst awake, Octavia rested a hand on Lincoln's shoulder and kissed the top of his head.

"I'll find a way to save you," Octavia whispered. "I promise."

Lincoln had been strapped down to the floor, but he began to grunt as he sprung back into consciousness. Octavia kneeled by him, and cradled the back of his head as she tried to help him drink water from a small metallic tin. But Lincoln snapped his jaw, nearly nipping at Octavia's fingertips. Octavia yelped as she scurried back. The tin clattered to the floor, and water spilled everywhere.

Octavia's jaw tensed as she quickly wiped up the mess with a rag and rose to her feet. "I'll go get him some more."
"O," Bellamy spoke softly as he placed a hand on Octavia's arm. "once the drug is out of system he'll be okay."
Octavia's bottom lip trembled as her eyes watered. "You can't protect me from this one, big brother."

Octavia left without another word. Bellamy's sorrowful gaze drifted to the floor. He had protected Octavia his entire life. So for Octavia to say he couldn't protect her from this, felt like a physical blow. Bellamy swiped at his eyes before the tears could pour. He didn't want anyone to see him cry. But as usual, Athena saw right through him.

Athena wrapped her arms around Bellamy's waist. "You can't protect her from everything, Bellamy."
"I'm supposed to. I'm her brother," Bellamy muttered, keeping his arms crossed instead of wrapping them around Athena.
"Right now, O just needs your moral support. That'll help her enough. She just needs you here," Athena spoke softly.

Bellamy slowly turned his head to gaze at Athena. He knew that she was right, but as the big brother he did have the need to be Octavia's defender. Athena blinked innocently as she squeezed her arms around Bellamy's waist tighter.

"Why aren't you hugging me back?" Athena asked.
Bellamy chuckled as he pulled Athena into a tight embrace. "Happy?"
"The happiest," Athena chimed, her eyes closed in bliss along with her smile.

A few minutes later, Octavia returned to the drop-ship. But a nervous expression plastered her face. The rest of the group gave her a confused look until they saw why. Octavia had brought a grounder. But Athena immediately recognized the man's long dark brown hair and beard which was matted in braids, and the dark swirly face paint.

"Nyko, you're alive," Athena breathed as a relieved smile dawned on her lips as she rushed to her friend and pulled him in for a hug.
"Most of us are. Thanks to you." Nyko grinned as he stepped back.
"I'm sorry, but who the hell are you?" James snarled as he went to stand beside his daughter.
"This is Nyko. He's the healer for Lincoln's village," Octavia informed.

Lincoln began to seize violently, and white foam poured from his mouth. Nyko didn't wait for anyone's permission to swoop down by his friend's side. Octavia hurried to sit by him. Nyko pulled a small tin out of his pack and popped the lid to reveal a dozen tiny vials. He picked up one that had cherry red liquid swishing inside.

"What is that?" Octavia asked, concern flickered in her green eyes.
"Your fight is over," Nyko whispered as he tilted the bottle.
Clarke stuck out her hand, and the red dot splattered onto her palm. "Wait! Your fight is over. It's what grounders say before death! He's not trying to save Lincoln. . . he's trying to kill him."
"Why, Nyko?" Octavia growled, shaking with anger. "Lincoln is your friend."
"Lincoln's gone," Nyko whimpered softly, his teary gaze set on Lincoln. "No one has ever come back from being a reaper."
"There must be a way," Octavia insisted.
"None that I've ever seen," Nyko responded.
Finn clambered up the ladder, and entered the room. "We need to go. The camp's leaving."
Nyko's eyes flared with pure loathing as he lunged for Finn. "You! Murderer!" In one swift movement Nyko had his hands clasped around Finn's neck, and had pinned him against the wall. "You slaughtered my people."
"Get off him!" Bellamy shouted, aiming his rifle at Nyko.
"Bellamy, don't you dare shoot him!" Octavia snapped, placing herself between the weapon and Nyko.
"You murdered the innocent. Elders, families, children," Nyko seethed, squeezing Finn's neck so tight he began to turn purple and his eyes bulged.
"You're killing him!" Clarke cried.
"Blood must have blood!" Nyko roared.

Athena quickly snatched a shock baton off one of the crates. She pressed the button, and the weapon glowed blue as she slammed it into Nyko's back. Nyko gasped as he collapsed to the floor. Athena stumbled back, the regret and sorrow was crystal clear in her eyes.

"Blood must not have blood," Athena said in the grounder language. "You're not killing him. Not yet."

The sky people looked at Athena with surprise that she could speak the grounder's language so well. By now everyone knew she had been in the grounders' village, but they never thought she had adapted to their culture. The room was too silent. Everyone glanced at Lincoln to see he had stopped seizing.

"Lincoln," Octavia whimpered, dropping by his side. "He's not breathing."
Clarke checked for a pulse. "His heart stopped. Move."

Octavia scurried to the side, but clutched Lincoln's hand. Clarke began to push down on Lincoln's heart for CPR. An intense silence smothered the room, as the group held their breath and waited. A few moments later, Lincoln gasped and sputtered out a cough. Octavia smiled with relief as she stroked the side of Lincoln's face.

Nyko's gaze of amazement rested on Lincoln. "He was dead. How did you do that?"
"You've tried to bring reapers back before and they all died like this?" Clarke questioned, and Nyko nodded.
"Oh my God. Clarke. Do you know what this means?" Athena half-grinned.
Clarke nodded, smiling slightly. "We have a way to stop the war."
