The next morning, Athena finally decided to change her clothes. She had escaped Mount Weather for good, and no longer wanted to carry it around with her. Malani and Gaia had helped her choose an outfit from one of the old wardrobes.
Athena wore a black long sleeved cold shoulder shirt, black jeans, and black hiking boots. A metal corset was wrapped around her middle. Her hair had been done in a casual half up half down braid. Athena and Gai sat on the steps of the gazebo in the village center, but Malani sat in Kai's lap. A large group of children huddled around them.
"Here you go, Athena!" A little girl with chin-length brown hair and big blue eyes grinned as she plopped a white flower crown on Athena's head.
"Thank you, Princess. I love it." Athena smiled.
"I think you should give one to Kai." Malani smirked tauntingly.
"No, Kenna. I really don't need one," Kai said politely.
"Here you go!" Kenna beamed as she plopped a flower crown on Kai's head.Malani doubled over with laughter. Kai crossed his arms. His expression unamused as his girlfriend laughed tauntingly. Malani kisses Kai's cheek which made him blush as he smiled lovingly at Malani. Athena giggled as she adjusted her flower crown. The group was in one of their happiest moments that they never noticed the spies hidden in the bushes.
"I can't believe Athena's here living the sweet life while everyone has been so worried about her," Murphy sneered.
"She's a traitor," Finn growled as he aimed the rifle at Athena who laughed at something the grounder boy had said.
Murphy smacked the rifle away from Athena's direction, eyes flaring with anger. "Woah. What the hell are you doing?"
"She's one of them now, we'll treat her like them," Finn snarled.
"Relax. She could just be acting so they don't kill her," Murphy retorted.
Finn squinted through the lens of the rifle. "She's not acting."The boys watched as Athena strode through the small clearing of the village center. A toddler boy sitting upon one of her shoulders while a little girl had latched onto her back. The children chattered away, and Athena wore a hint of a smile on her lips. The children of the village were pulled toward Athena as if she were a magnet, and she wasn't pushing them away.
"We wait until dark," Finn breathed, turning to Murphy. "How much ammo do we have?"
Finn rolled his eyes as he positioned his rifle away from Athena. "I think I liked you better as a peacemaker."🔷
Clarke had told Bellamy, Octavia, her mother, and Mr. Dawson what happened after the war. The grounders hadn't taken them. The mountain men had. Athena and Clarke had been the only ones to see Mount Weather wasn't a good place, so they had escaped but the other forty-six delinquents were still trapped inside. It wouldn't be long before the delinquents were drained for their blood.
"We need to know what happened after Athena pushed Clarke off," James hissed to Bellamy, with a neat flip of his wrist, he downed his shot of vodka. He and Bellamy were sitting at the public bar. "Think. What would Athena do?"
"She would've surrendered, but switched around once she had them under her control," Bellamy grunted before he chugged his drink. He huffed as he wiped his bottom lip with his thumb.
"Would she know how to get back to the drop-ship?" James asked.
Bellamy licked his lips. "Yeah. Possibly."
"Then we need to go after her," James whispered, turning to Bellamy completely.
"I want to find her too, Mr. Dawson. More than anything. But if she's not at the ship-" Bellamy sighed. "-where is she?"Dawson's eyes narrowed into a deadly glare as he slightly tilted his head. Bellamy slightly paled, because in that moment, Athena had flickered to life before Bellamy's eyes. Perhaps the head tilt and deadly glare was a Dawson thing.
"Alive. That's what," Dawson growled. He huffed as he rose to his feet and slid on his guard jacket. "Don't start losing hope on me now, Blake."
"I would never lose hope on Athena," Bellamy promised.
"Good, because here's what I need you to do," Dawson whispered.
