[lemon boy - cavetown]

i woke up with the faint smell of breakfast in the air and the daylight softly illuminating the living room. i slowly sat as i stretched my arms then started to look around the place. plates and utensils then clanged on the other side of the flat, which made me flinch a little. bothered, i stood up from robbie's couch then headed to the kitchen.

at the moment when i got to his kitchen, i realised it was only robin placing two bowls, two glasses, and two spoons on the table. he took out a box of cereal and a bottle of milk from the fridge.

"oh hey, good morning." he greeted as he placed two slices of bread in the toaster. "how was your sleep?"

"alright i guess." i replied then sat on the stool near the table. my eyes were still kinda blurry and felt a little woozy. robin then took out the butter from the fridge while i took the cereal box. "coco pops..." i said as i read the label.

"yup," robin then took a stool then sat down at the other side of the table. i poured the cereal in the bowl then took the bottle of milk so i could pour it. "wow, i thought you were about to pour the milk in first." robin teased.

"eh, i changed my ways..." i shrugged as i ate a spoonful of that cereal. while i was about to take a second spoonful of it, the toaster made a ding! sound which made robbie head towards it to take the two loaves of bread he left there.

"toast?" he offered.

"thanks," i answered as he placed it on my plate.

"so..." robin sighed as he sat down.

"so?" i placed the spoon inside my mouth.

"uh... never mind." he ate his toast. i just nodded then continued eating my cereal, trying to think of a good topic to talk about.

"hey, i was just wondering..." i spoke which made him pause for a moment. "what's it like living alone?" robin shrugged.

"it's okay, kind of." robin sipped his glass of chocolate milk. "i get a little more privacy, which is good; a little more quiet compared to my old room. although, sometimes one of the neighbors here can be pretty loud at night, especially when i was about to sleep about a month ago."

"what do you mean by—oh..." i paused after i realised what he meant. "so... so you hear-"

"yup." i could tell by the look on his face, he was very disturbed about that night. "still haunts me every darn time whenever i think about it." he grimaced.

"i see." i pursed my lips then continued eating cereal. "well, at least that's over."

"right, right." he nodded. the awkward energy around the both of us made me stiffen up a little. while i was eating the remaining cereal in my bowl, i tried to think of another topic; something more... not uncomfortable to talk about. "do you have any plans for next month?"

"i guess so?" i chuckled. "um... all i know is that i will be visiting my great-grandparents' grave again. it's going to be their wedding anniversary and i thought it would be y'know, nice to celebrate it with them." i grinned. i've always thought that their love for each other was adorable. whenever i visit their house, they would usually tell me about how they met again and again. grandma (her daughter) would usually get annoyed whenever they do it but i ignored anyway since they tend to forget that i've heard of their love story a few times now.

"the one we visited last time?"

"yup, the one we visited last time." abruptly, i heard my phone ring somewhere near the living room. my stomach started to churn, thinking that my mum might be the one who's calling. i rushed to the couch then threw some of the pillows off it, trying to find my phone. i do hope she isn't mad or anything. after placing the pillows back, i realised my phone was charging at the corner of the room.

i ran towards it as it continued to ring then accepted the call.

"mum?" i sighed as i sat on the floor.

"where are you?" mum asked.

"uh... in robin's house." i grimaced. "look, i'm sorry i didn't go home last night. i was nearly chased by a dog and-"

"i was just checking up on you. i expected you to stay there since it was eleven when you called us." my mum chuckled on the line. "go home already, i have a surprise for you."

"surprise?"

"yes."

"what kind of surprise?"

"you'll know if you get here now." she said which made me roll my eyes. "i'll see you in a bit; your brother and i are buying groceries at the moment. i love you!"

"love you too, mum." the call ended.

"who was it?" robin asked as he walked towards me.

"i need to go home." i stood up then took one of my bags from the floor.

"i'm coming with you, just let me get dressed." he ran inside his bedroom to get his clothes. "i'll be out in a moment!"
