i pull riley closer to me by the waist, peering over her shoulder.

"any minute now," she mutters anxiously.

she's been taking tests throughout this entire year, all of them ending in failure.

we've seen a doctor, and she told us to just keep trying. i do hope we have a kid before our 30s, though.

"it's showing," she gasps. i look closer, my heart pounding through my chest.

she suddenly screams a happy scream and waves it ferociously, jumping up and down.

"wait- wait let me see," i say and grab for it.

it's there, loud and clear.

two pink lines.

i gasp, reaching for my hair.

this is amazing.

"ethan!" she giggles, still bouncing, "we're having a baby,"

"take another one," i say, not being able to contain my grin, "just to be sure."

she takes another one, and we play the waiting game again.

"THEY'RE THERE!" she exclaims with pure joy, "they're faint, BUT THEY'RE THERE!"

i stand in the bathroom, utterly speechless. my body doesn't know how to deal with what i'm feeling, so all i can do is pick up riley and swing her around as she laughs.

"oh my god, there's something in there," i grin, poking her stomach.

"i need to tell my mom," she gushes.

{riley}

after a few weeks, and multiple ultrasounds, i'm finally cleared that there is in fact a little baby in me.

well, almost a baby.

ethan and i lay on our couch, brainstorming cute ideas to tell our families.

"what about we just have like a banner, or something?" he asks, sipping on the pregnancy drinks i got for myself.

"thats boring," i frown.

"we should invite them to dinner, and then you order water while everyone else orders alcohol, and you can say 'oh yeah by the way i'm pregnant.'"

"we should do that for your family, since you came up with it." i shrug.

"all of them? my grandparents? my sister? grayson? my mom?"

"all of them." i smile.

<ethan>

i bounce my leg under the table, anxious to tell them. riley clamps her hand on my thigh, and i let my leg relax.

we're fine.

"so," my mom smiles, "this is a nice surprise."

my grandparents nod in agreement and my siblings eye me suspiciously.

it's been so hard keeping it from grayson.

"just..." riley starts, "wanted to see you guys."

my mom tilts her head with a smile, and reaches across the table for riley's hand.

her wedding ring sparkles in the restaurant lighting, which makes me happy.

"may i get you guys some drinks to start off with?" our waiter asks.

it's time.

"red wine, thank you." i say, and grayson agrees.

after everyone has ordered there choice of drink, all eyes land on riley.
