Chapter 12

Just like I thought, it took us basically all day to walk back to New Havens. Before we walked into the clearing, I stopped and looked at Shannon. Shannon gave me a questioning look. "Let's go over the plan one more time" I say. Shannon gives me a look. "I just want to make sure you know the plan" I say, "Well your life, Dave, and Isabell's lives all hang in the balance of this plan going off without a hitch." "What about you" Shannon asks.

"Well I can go either way really, it all depends on Rachel" I say, "I could be tortured again and then forced into a new deal or Rachel tells everyone I'm infected and they throw me in a pit full of pathos. Either way it's a lose-lose situation for me." Shannon says, "Once inside New Havens walls, we act like nothing happened, we act normal as to not draw any unwanted attention. You will come to the house after you talk to Rachel and lull her into a false sense of security."

"You will then tell Dave and Isabell the truth about Rachel" Shannon says, "The rest of tonight and tomorrow will be for making preparations to leave and sleeping. During the three am shift, we will sneak out. Happy?" I roll my eyes, "I just don't want anything to happen to any of you." "Let's do this then" Shannon says. Shannon has barely taken a step when I grab her hand and pull her into me. I connect our lips and Shannon immediately kisses me back. Shannon hands tangle in my hair and mine gently hold her hips.

After a few minutes, I pull away and say, "Now let's do this." I walk out first followed shortly by Shannon. It only takes a few seconds for one of the guards to see us. They start shouting orders as we walk up to the gates. As we approach, two guards open the gates for us. Once we are inside, the guards close the gates. I see Rachel approaching in the distance. Its show time boys.

Rachel runs to me, jumping onto me and wrapping her arms around me. I stumble back a few steps catching her. "Oh my god" Rachel says crying into my shoulder, "I thought I lost you for good this time." "Please" I say, "You can't get rid of me that easily...well actually I have Shannon to thank for that." I put Rachel down onto the ground, but she keeps her arms wrapped around my neck. She looks at Shannon and says, "Thank you." "Well I just got my cousin back" Shannon says, "I didn't want to lose her again."

Rachel clears her throat and back away from me, "Why don't you two go see that doctor and then you come see me, then you can see your brother and sister." Me and Shannon make our way to the doctors and Rachel goes back to her office. Once the doctor releases us, me and Shannon quickly hug and go our separate ways. Shannon to my house to let Isabell and Dave know we are still alive and update them on what happened and me to Rachel's office to talk.

I arrive and walk right in. Rachel looks up and smiles. She walks over and hugs me, I return the hug. "I'm so glad your ok" Rachel says. "Please don't kill anyone because I got left behind" I say, "It wasn't anyone's fault." "Ok" Rachel says after a few seconds. Rachel kisses me and I kiss her back so that she doesn't suspect anything. I am about to pull away before Rachel starts to push me back and I end up falling onto the couch in her office.

She straddles me and begins to kiss me again. Well we really haven't done anything since Richard shot me and if I try to stop this, she might get suspicious. After going over a few scenarios I decide to keep this going for a little longer. Rachel begins to get handsy and then starts to undue my belt. That's when I grab her hands and stop her. "Why did you stop" Rachel asks confused.

"We will have plenty of time for this" I say giving her a quick peck to try and help diffuse a possible argument and get her to get her to be more agreeable, "My sister and brother want to see me especially after Shannon tells them what happened." Rachel looks like she is going to object when I say, "I will make it up to you in three days. The day of the festival, we will do whatever you want." Rachel studies me for a few seconds before saying, "And I'm going to hold you to that."

Rachel connects our lips for a few seconds before letting me go. I quickly walk back to my house. One more day Clarke and you never have to see Rachel again. New Havens will burn to the ground and Richard will regret the day he took you captive. As soon as I enter my house, Isabell and Dave engulf me in a hug. "Thank god your ok" Isabell says. "I thought we lost you again" Dave says. "I need to tell you guys something important" I say.

We sit down and I tell them the truth about Rachel. "That bitch" Isabell says when I finish. "So, what's the plan" Dave asks. "We leave tomorrow during the three am shift. Until then we make preparations to leave and sleep" I say, "But most importantly, we act normal so that Rachel doesn't suspect anything."
