I've never seen a rouge showdown before, y'know since I didn't know that rouge demigods existed until maybe a month ago, and this one looked pretty scary and cool at the same time. It kind of reminded me of a movie like Star Wars or Indiana Jones thought those were probably bad examples. We were all too stunned to move as a dude maybe a year or two younger than me walked in through the door behind those armored guards. He had The beginnings of a beard and some impressive sideburns as well as a long silver long sword and rumpled clothes under hastily put on armor. Carmen took one look at the guy.
"Back off or you know what happens." He said, his guns still raised.
"And what happens?" He said with a mocking smile. Carmen responded by somehow cocking both guns.
"You die." He said and I furrowed my brow. Is he bluffing? I couldn't tell.
"If I don't back off you'll kill me? Like you could even do that, surrounded and outmatched. Or better yet: outgunned." The guy said with another smile.
"You say another word and I'll cap you right here!" Carmen snarled and I felt the need to back away. I didn't though. The man chuckled a bit.
"Oh Wolf. You always did have a fiery temper." He said with deceptively kind eyes.
"Shut up, Makenna." Carmen said savagely. I was afraid he might actually pull the trigger. Makenna only laughed. His eyes twinkled.
"Fire." And gunshots assaulted my ears. I thought we'd died but Carmen thrust his hand up and sharp trunks of mahogany wood shot up out of the ground and stopped most of the bullets. What wasn't stopped, missed.
The rouge demigods must've been prepared for this because a saw poked Through the wood and Makenna's voice waved out through the small cut.
"You think just because you have your coat back your invincible? We ripped it off your back once! We can do it again!" This time his voice had no false sympathy or emotion. It was all wild anger. Carmen reacted quickly. He shoved one gun in his pocket as the other morphed into a silver Compact Bow. He drew back the string and a blunt arrow appeared in his grasp.
A soldier tried to look through the new hole and Carmen let the arrow fly, smashing in part of the helmet.
"Awh! My eye!" He screamed as the bow morphed back into a pistol which he stuffed in his pocket. He turned to us.
"Ideas?" He said frantically. We all shook our heads we were too bewildered to do much. Carmen snapped his fingers.
"Sprinklers!" He said, his face lightning up.
"W-what?" I asked, starting to wonder about his sanity.
"It's water Percy." He said, motioning with his hands. There was a collective facepalm as I managed to feel stupid once again.
"Ooohhhh. I get it now." I nodded and adjusted my grip on Riptide. "How are we going to activate them?" I asked. Carmen smiled and put out his hand but before he could do anything Thalia grabbed an Imperial Gold dagger off the ground.
"Like this." She stabbed the nearest intact locker which made the knife crack and start emoting smoke which caused the sprinklers to go off. Pretty soon all of our hair was wet and our clothing was soaked.
"Yeah okay. That works too." Carmen said, squinting and frowning at the ceiling.
"Percy." Nico said, his dark eyes piercing my soul. Every time I looked at him I could only think about his time in Tartarus. Where he'd been during the giants rise up. All alone. I had failed him. "Do your thing."
I nodded and gathered the water around me. It enveloped me like a cocoon and then broke apart, encompassing all of us. It was broken into tiny bead segments that swirled in different directions. If somebody stabbed at us it would act like chainmail.
I walked forward into the wood wall and the rain shield cut it apart like a chainsaw. The soldiers stumbled back and fired off rounds that hit the shield and either flattened upon impact or glanced off. I didn't want to hurt them so I tired to stay far enough away from them.
"Jackson." Makenna growled but his voice was full of a weird combination of absolute fear and awe. Carmen whooped.
"Hell yeah!" He said as we advanced on Them. Two soldiers continued firing on he while four others ran inside to deal with us physically.
One swung his sword at him and I intercepted it, I twisted it from his grip and then slammed Riptide into his face. He crumpled as I watched Carmen shoot someone in the leg and then blade smack him across the face. Thalia played catch and mouse with one before ramming Aegis into her enemies ribs causing him to sputter and gasp and curl up on the floor. Alexus and Artemis made a killer team. Alexus shot an arrow into their opponents shoulder over Artemis's one as she lunged in and stabbed him in the leg.
Nico shadow traveled behind one of the soldiers shooting at us and shanked him in the Achilles' tendon before blocking the butt of a rifle from the other soldier. He moved back and cut the gun in half before straight up punching him in The face. He shook out his hand a little and then melted back into the shadows. Makenna was the only one left. He raised his shaking sword.
"Y-you'll never get past me... I-I'm a loyal soldier! I'll die before you'll get past!" But his voice was shaking.
"Oh shut up." I ripped every water pipe in the room out of the wall and turned them towards him, blasting gallons of water onto him.
