Watching the smoke dance about in the air as I took another drag on my cigarette, before staring at the ruby colour front door only 100 yards away from me. Sighing to myself leaning against my mustang.

It was now or never right?

Throwing the cigarette on the floor, I pushed myself off my car. Every step felt like I was weighted down. Like trying to walk through a ball pit or having a ball and chain attached. Every step praying that my step dad wasn't in. Before I could even ring the bell the door flew open revealing a very ecstatic older version of myself.

"My baby" she squealed engulfing me in a hug.

"Ok ma, less of the fuss please" I chuckled as she let me go allowing me to walk into the house.

"Luke get that kettle on will you" my mum shouted through the house.

My heart sunk. He was here.

Walking through the house to the living, the only sound was my heels against the hard wood floor.

"Is that my baby sister" kade shouted as I walked into the room.

"The one and only bitch, and less of the baby I'm only 20 minutes younger than you" I smirked at him.

"Haylee watch the language" my mum scolded.

"Sorry ma"

"I'd recognise the sound of that power strut anyway" kade beamed engulfing me in a bone crushing hug. The air was being squeezed out of my lungs.

"Kade.. I'd like to.. breathe..no...air"

"Still the dramatic one I see" he chuckled releasing his arms and ruffling my hair. The one thing I hate. No body touched my hair.

Perching on the arm of the sofa I glared at him.

"Hayls stop I feel like you are staring right into my sole with that ice queen look" he shuddered

"And you say I'm the dramatic one" rolling my eyes at him.

The atmosphere went cold, goosebumps started to form on my skin as he walked into the room.

"Hayley, nice to see you" Luke flashed me a toothless smile.

"Yeah same to you" I muttered.

"I feel like I never see my baby any more" mum sighed.

Why couldn't the floor just open up and swallow me right now. Every time I can round we had this conversation. She knew why I hated Luke and he was the reason I didn't visit as much now.

"Ma you know why I don't visit much now" I breathed.

"I know, I know you are busy with work. I just wish I saw you a bit more sweetie" she smiled at me causing a pang of guilt to stab me in the heart.

"Lucinda you home" a voice echoed through the house. A voice that is never thought I'd hear again. A voice I wanted to forget. A voice that caused me so much heartache.

"In here Connor" my mum shouted.

"Why's Connor here?" I questioned

"He lives with us sis" kade whispered

My silence spoke a thousand words but only kade knew what my silence meant.

I knew I should have just carried on driving, right past the estate, right past the awkwardness.

The foot steps got louder and the aftershave got  stronger hitting me in the face like a ton of bricks. The door burst open revealing the image of my heartache. My weakness. The reason I can't love. I definitely wanted the ground to swallow me up right now.

His eyes connected with mine, causing him to freeze.

"Oh shit" kade muttered as his eyes flicked between me and Connor. He was the only person that knew what truly went down between us, my mum just thought we were best friends. How wrong was she.

"Haylee, I didn't expect you here" he stuttered just as shocked as me.

"Yeah well it's only a flying visit I was in the area" I muttered taking a sip of my coffee.

"You got a new car" he flashing me his killer smile

"Well done captain obvious" I spat rolling my eyes.

"Still a ball of sass I see" Connor smirked.

"What happened to you too? You used to be best friends" ma sighed.

"I just grew up ma and started to see people how they actually were" I bluntly said not looking at Connor. At that point I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. Staring down at the screen I had to smile to myself.

- well this is awkward as fuck, pretend this is work and get outta here-

"Sorry to cut this short but I'm needed back at the office" I said standing up smoothing out my dress.

"It's 5.30pm Hayley" my mum sighed

"I know but duty calls" I laughed.

After giving my mum a hug, I walked out the living not giving Connor the time of day. Kade followed me to the door.

"Thanks bro I owe you" I smiled unlocking my car

"You don't owe me anything, I know things are awkward between you two" he shrugged.

"Don't go causing too much trouble sis" he laughed as I climbed into the drivers seat.

"Pfft we all know trouble is my middle name" I winked as the beast roared into life.

Speeding down the street, thoughts all over the place. What I'd give to turn the clock back and make things right. But we both knew it was too late for that. There was too much history and too many scars to ever make things work again, no matter how much I wanted to try. As the scenery changed from the suburbs to the highway my mood had started to lift, just like the sun coming out on a rainy day. I had come too far in life to let everything come crashing down because of one person.

So the first part. What do we all think?
