"You not at work today sweetie" my mum smiled passing me a steaming mug of coffee.
"No, I take wednesdays off. Personal reasons" I half smiled checking the time on my watch.
"Shit I'm gonna be late" I muttered grabbing my travel mug and pouring the fresh coffee into it.
"Haylee where you going?" My mum questioned.
"I've gotta be somewhere" I laughed.
"But it's your birthday, I was going to make pancakes" she frowned
"Ma I will be back in a hour, you can make me pancakes then" I said quickly kissing her head.
"Happy birthday baby" she shouted as I walked out my apartment.
Smiling to myself as I reached my car, my phone buzzed in my pocket.

Plugging my phone into my car, I let the music surround me as I drove to my recovery group.
As I walked into the room I couldn't help but smile, on my chair the guys had tied balloons and a banner to it and placed a small gift bag on the chair.
"Aww guys you didn't have to" I smiled
"We couldn't ignore it's your 25th birthday" Karen smiled at me. "Go on open your present" she smiled.
Pulling the tissue paper out of the bag I found £100 of tattoo vouchers.
"Guys really this is too much" I smiled gratefully at them. "Thank you"
"Right let's get down to business, it's good to see you back with us Haylee" Karen nodded. "Now does anyone have anything to share today"
"I do" I sighed. "So as you all know, I haven't been present for a while. Let's just say my life has been flipped upside down in the last 2 months. My ex came back into my life, the one that was the reason I went down the black hole. Anyway I was in a club, some random guy placed a bag of coke in my hands." I looked down ashamed.
"What happened Haylee" Karen said softly.
"I was torn. For fucking bad, all the old memories came rushing back. The feeling of that high, the pain. I broke down in the smoking area, I wasn't thinking straight. The next think I knew was my brother taking me home. Waking up the next morning I found the bag empty on the bathroom counter. It wasn't until I broke down in the bathroom my brother told me I didn't actually do the coke" a single tear rolled down my cheek. "He then told me I threw the bag across my old bedroom and he flushed it after I fell asleep"
"Temptation can be hard, but you didn't do it girl. You stayed clean" Ricky grinned at me.
"That's why you disappeared on us" Karen said causing me to nod.
"I had so much going through my head. Since that night me and my ex have talked things through laid everything down on the table about the night I nearly died. And I know you all might think it's crazy but I'm giving him another chance. He isn't dealing any more and his life spiralled out of control as much as mine did. He is a different person now, a better person" I whispered.
"All that matters is your happiness hun" karen smiled. "Which brings me onto some happy news" she grinned at me.
"Now as well as haylees birthday today it also marks the three year anniversary of her being clean" she beamed passing me my 3 year token.
"You remembered" I laughed as I saw she got it made into a key ring.

As I unlocked the door to my apartment, I ran my fingers over my token. How can one small bit of plastic mean the absolute world? Smiling to myself at how far I had come I pushed the door open and had to laugh at the sight in front of me.
"Connor you are doing it all wrong" my Ma shouted at him slapping his hand away from the icing.
"Kade stop playing give me the balloon back she's gonna be home any time now" lexi whined chasing my brother round the living room.
Seriously them two needed to suck it up and admit their feelings for each other.
Letting the door slam behind me to let them know I was home. I just laughed as they froze.
"You are home early" kade scrunched his eye brows together.
"Actually I'm not" I laughed looking at my watch "I'm late, my meeting ran over"
"Well it doesn't matter, happy birthday my baby girl" my ma grinned pulling me into a hug.
I could tell she was putting a front on, after everything that happened yesterday with Luke, but I wasn't going to bring that up today. She needed to focus on something else. And today that something was me.
After she let me go I walked out onto my balcony, sparking up a smoke.
It wasn't long before I felt two strong arms wrap around my waist.
"Happy birthday baby girl" Connor whispered kissing my head.
"Sorry I haven't got you anything" he sighed
"Connor it's ok just you being here is enough" I whispered leaning back into his chest.
I don't know how long we stayed like that but we broke apart when I heard a camera go off.
"Oh my god, when did that happen" she beamed as she looked at me and Connor.
"Ma stop" I laughed as I felt my face turn red.
"We decided last night we were gonna see where things went" Connor smiled kissing my head as I hid in his chest.
"I always thought you two would make a cute couple all them years ago. It's good to see you both can finally see it" she grinned.
