"Miss Reanor, mr Mathers is sat in the meeting room for you" Lucy smiled at me passing me a coffee.

"Thank you" I smiled before walking into my office to grab my laptop.

Catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror I had to laugh.

I had very little make up on my hair was french plaited, a black long sleeve, ripped jeans and my Nike air max on.

I looked like the old me. The care free me.

If you saw me in the street you would have no idea I ran a successful business.

"Sorry I'm late, had a nightmare of a morning" I said walking into the meeting room.

"It's fine girl" marshal chuckled before raising an eyebrow at me with my outfit.

"Wouldn't have thought the owner of Reanor property investments would walk in looking like someone who rolls with us" the guy sat next to him laughed.

"This is what you get for trying to run a business and your family throws a surprise birthday party for you" I smiled sitting down.

"I'm Paul by the way, miss Reanor" he smiled.

"Please it's Haylee, miss Reanor makes me sound old" I laughed

"So not to be rude or anything but what makes you want to invest in my studio in Detroit and set a couple up here?" Marshall asked leaning forward.

"Well" I breathed.

"I've not had the best life, lost my dad at 16 and I hit rock bottom about 5 years ago. I've been in and out of rehab so many times I lost count. 3 years ago I made the decision to change my life and got clean. I know you probably hear this all the time but your music helped me through a lot of dark places in my life" I said just getting a nod off both Paul and Marshall like they sensed there was more to the story.

"During the two years I was trying to get clean, when I was in and out of rehab I actually moved to Detroit. I found myself stumbling over your studio. I actual recorded a couple of bits. Nothing of my own though. I actually recorded a cover of cleaning out my closet and not afraid" I laughed "I know i probably sound like a crazy ass fan right now"

"Did you do anything with the recordings?" Marshall asked.

"No" I shook my head. "I didn't want people to know what I was going through especially my ma. So I left the tracks with the studio" I half smiled opening my laptop.

I saw the puzzled look on both Marshall and Paul's face.

"I recognise that logo man" he smiled "your Jayy aren't you"

"Yeah that's me" I smiled softly

"Do you know how long it's been bugging me that I never knew the mystery girl was" he laughed.

"Now you know"

"You ever thought of getting back in the studio, your spin on not afraid was immense" Paul smiled at me.

"No I haven't, to be honest I haven't stepped foot in a studio since I got clean. Bad memories and shit" I said looking down.

After about 2 hours we had worked out all the logistics of the studios.

"Right so I've been thinking, I've got some studio time now. How about you come join" marshal smiled.

"I don't know. I haven't been in a studio since" I whispered

"Hey it's ok, nothing bad is gonna happen, trust me" marshal smiled gently placing his hand on my arm.

"Ok" I whispered with a small smile.

———

Walking into the studio, I had to smile. It was the only place I ever felt free.

Flopping onto the sofa I watched Marshall work his magic in the booth.

I must have got lost in my thoughts as the next thing I knew was Marshall waving his hand in my face.

"Yo did you here me?" He laughed.

"Nope" I giggled.

"Right well I said get your ass in that booth" he grinned.

"No, there's no way I'm going in there" I said shaking my head.

"Yes you are, now up" he said taking my hands and pulling me up.

"You're a dick" I laughed as he pushed me into the booth.

"Tell me something I don't know hun" he shrugged "now I actually have your version of not afraid on my laptop. I had an idea" he grinned.

"I don't like the sound of this" I groaned.

"Woman just hear me out ok, so I wanna re-release some tracks but I want a different spin on them" he grinned

"Go on" I raised my eyebrow at him.

"I love your take on not afraid and was thinking it would sound dope with both of us" he smiled.

"Fine" I rolled my eyes at him.

Hours had passed and some how I had managed to get myself in a rap battle with marshal.

"That was amazing guys, you two together are fire, oh Haylee your phones been blowing up"  Paul said throwing me my phone.

Looking at the lit screen I sighed. I had 30 missed calls and 20 texts all off Connor.

"I'm going for a smoke" I nodded at the guys.

Once I was outside I pressed the phone to my ear.

"Where the fuck are you" Connor spat

"Hello to you too" I said rolling my eyes.

"Seriously you've been gone for hours where are you" he said

"I'm at the studio with Marshall"  I smile as I watch marshal lean against the wall next to me.

"The fuck you doing in the studio" he shouted

"No you can fuck off. We haven't even put a label on us yet and you are slipping back into your old ways. Do you know what you can kiss my fucking ass, I will be home when I'm home" I shouted at him before hanging the phone up.

"Why won't the world give me a fucking break" I sighed taking a drag on my smoke. "All men suck"

"Hey" Marshall laughed acting hurt.

"Bitch you ain't a man, you're a god" I winked
