[Songs for the Chapter]
[The Beatles-Yesterday]
[The Beatles-Hey Jude]
~
I was so bored. I lay in my bed again, in my underwear. I felt alone, my mind was blank. For the first time in well, forever, I had nothing to really worry about. I just stared at the ceiling, ear buds in, blasting a very calm song. Yesterday by The Beatles. The soothing guitar strings and humming had me completely relaxed.
My bed was softer than it usually felt, almost silky. The fabric caressed my back each time I moved, sending me farther into tranquility. I closed my eyes, letting the music course through my brain. I parted my lips and breathed in, taking in as much air as my lungs let me. My lips closed, holding the air in for seconds.
Once my chest started feeling like it was burning, like I was going to cough up blood, I exhaled. The burning left my chest slowly, subsided into nothing. I still lay, my arms out beside me, my legs open and my head between two pillows. I softly hummed along to the song, then turning into singing.
"Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as though they're here to stay oh, I believe in yesterday, suddenly I'm not half the man I used to be..." I trailed off, feeling my breathing slow.
I stopped, hearing the soft instrument play as sleep took over my body.
I awake, hearing a loud, annoying ringing blasting in my ears. My eyes shoot open and I sit up, pulling the headphones from my phone and tossing them aside. I swiped the touchscreen to the right and pressed it to my ear.
"What?" I asked, rudely awoken from my sleep.
"Someone needs their sleep..." Drew giggled.
I rubbed my eyes.
"Sorry for snapping, I just woke up."
"It's okay, are you doing anything today?"
"No, want me to come over?" I asked, standing up and putting my black jeans on.
"Yeah, I'm bored."
"Okay, I'll be over soon." I said, then hung up.
I slipped my white shirt on and put my shoes on. Grabbing my keys and phone, I shut the door and walked down the street. I was really getting tired of walking everywhere, since the car I had broke down. I should probably get a new one. I walked down her street and saw her aunt's car gone, again.
Some guardian. I walked up the steps and knocked on the door, it opened and she gestured me inside. The house smelled like lilac as I walked in, the scent intruding my mind and bringing peace to me, though I wasn't angry when I came here.
"Would you like a drink?" Drew asks, making me turn to her.
"Sure, do you have any kind of soda?"
She nods and heads into the kitchen. I stay back in the main room, looking around at the multiple pictures of Drew when she was younger. She had the same facial structure, but her cheeks her less full now. Her hair was a dark blonde in most of the pictures, and she was so tiny. I picked up one school picture of her in which one of her front teeth were missing, but her smile was wide.
"Stop looking at my hideous pictures." Drew says behind me and sets the picture face down.
"You were adorable, especially with your hair up."
She rolls her eyes and hands me the drink, she sits down on the couch and I sit next to her. I take a long drink from the soda and set it down, half full. Before I know what I'm doing, I burp very loudly, my hand flies to my mouth as I try not to laugh hysterically.
"Dude." she looks at me with a smile and I can't help my laughter. "That was so weak."
I turn my head and shake my head, still recovering from my fit of laughter.
"Like you can do better."
"Oh I can, and I have." once she says that, her smile fades. "What a great thing say to a boyfriend." she mutters.
I smile down at the glass and hand it to her, she shakes her head and tries to plush it away.
"Harry-"
"I want to see you do better, unless your all talk." I challenge, and she squints her eyes.
She snatches the glass and chugs the drink in a few seconds. When she sets it down, her eyes are watery from the carbonation.
"If I do this, you can't break up with me afterwards due to repulsiveness."
"Deal." I nod and wait, my hand crossed on my lap.
She sighs and touches her stomach, before a tiny kitten like burp comes from her lips. I can't help but laugh so hard I'm afraid I'm going to pee.
"You call that better?"
"You caught me on a bad day!" she laughs, falling into me.
Her heads rests on my chest as I lean back on her couch, her shoulders shake from laughter. I wrap my arms around her and look down, pushing some hair from her face when she looks up. Her face is red from laughter and mine is too no doubt.
"Kiss." I say, pouting my lips.
She smiles and presses her warm lips to mine, her hands holding onto my shirt. I let my hands wonder down to her waist and squeeze while I swing her onto my lap. I stop when she winces.
"What's wrong?" I ask, looking at where my hands are.
"Just from, uh, practice."
She places her hands over mine and leans in again, kissing my lips softly. I want to object, but I can't when her lips move with mine slowly, rendering me temporarily speechless. What I wonder is why she never told me she played a sport before.
