Helena fights her way through the dark forest. Clutching her hand to her heart. The painful throbbing in her chest. She had gotten used to it. It was a pain that reminded her of her ever nearing death. But there was no way she could give in to the sweet temptation yet. Not just yet. There was only one left.
She drags her feet forward. One step at a time. "Terence.. Please give me a bit of your strength. Please..", she whispers as she collapses onto her knees. Just his name lets the determination in her heart burn up again. She struggles back to her feet and growls. Screams in frustration. She fights forward.
She grabs the dagger in her hand tightly.
Without hesitation she rips the horcrux out of its watery hiding spot. She raises the blade over her head as she kneels over the damned thing. She opens her lips.
With a warcry she slams the flaming dagger down into the damned locket. It breaks into a thousand pieces. Sharp glass shards that cut her scarred flesh. The shockwave and the flashing images of death before her eyes remind her, that it is finally over. She feels her heartbeat stop for a minute. She cries out as she leans back. Her pale body, dirtied from months on the hunt for the damned horcruxes lays amongst the wild flowers. She smiles, raises a hand to her eyes. A breathy laugh leaves her lips. "I did it. I really did it."
The pain in her chest gets worse.
She feels death grasp for her, when she hears the crack from somebody apparating.
In her blurring vision she sees a face she can't recognize. But she didn't care anymore. Why should she? She had fulfilled her mission.
She feels her body being lifted up and how she it sucked through a tube.James Potter and Sirius run towards their headmaster as he carries the skinny and bruised body towards the castle.
Students gather around. Stare at the girl. Covered in cuts and bruises.
She is placed on the ground as her heart skips another beat and she twitches in pain and agony, but still softly chuckles. "I did it.", she whispers again and again, as her muddy clothes slowly turn a blue grey colour.
Her favorite colour since she fell in love with the colour of Terences eyes.
Her hair slowly turns a brilliant rose red. Her favorite colour because of her house. Her tears turn golden. Bright and beautiful like the sunlight. The color of life.
James falls to his knees next to her and holds her hand. Her heart clenches again and she convulses but lacks the strength to curl into a fetal position.
"I only wish I had seen him smile one. last. time. It looked so beautiful. Terence.."
her vision turns into a ever more clear picture of him. The Slytherin seeker with the most beautiful blue eyes that look like a spring morning sky.
Her breath gets more and more shallow as Madame Pomfrey leans over the girl in panic.
"I don't even know how she is still breathing. Her heart is self destructing. Maybe this.."
Helena hears none of those words. All she sees is the boy she loved so dearly. Her fingers entwine with his. Unbeknownst to her she is actually holding her fathers hand, while her mother is clutching onto his shoulders, her body shaking like his from tears. He had told her everything. And though she hadn't given birth to this girl she feels her heart break, imagining loosing her child. "Helena. Please.", she whispers.
"Terence... I..."
Her heart stops beating and the fresh young couple sobs, clinging to each other as they had just witnessed a part of them die.
Remus Lupin clutches his heart as his inner wolf is going insane. Trying to find a person responsible for its pup dying. Trying to cower over its dead pup. His pup.. That was the last bit of necessary proof. She said the entire truth.
Helena fades.
Her body levitates through darkness, as it always did when she was dream visiting Harry or Remus, her godfather. She closes her eyes. Satisfied with fulfilling her duty. With winning her last battle. The old wizard can only stare at the girl who paid the highest price to save everybody else but her. A truly brave person. She is buried on the school grounds. And in one large effort battle Tom Riddle is killed. Once and for all.
His death eaters are quickly persecuted and until then locked up in Azkaban.
The wizarding world is finally peaceful. But a part of it will always be missing.
The brave, good soul of a girl that had only herself to loose and everything to gain.
