lana's pov

12:23pm

i grabbed a bag of salsa sun chips and an apple juice from the café line, sitting down at a small window table with lex and ella, we always meet for lunch on tuesdays.

"hey." i said in the most drained voice ever.

"hey girl!" lex replied

"hi." ella followed up

"did you do that prezi for class el?" i asked

"nope." she said and took a bite of her sandwich. "i didn't understand what the question was asking."

"me either." i shrugged and turned to lex.

"look." lex whispered and bumping my elbow with hers.

i looked in the direction she was pointing as ethan made his way over to our table.

he rubbed this jaw as he straddled the chair next to me. i swear everything he did was sexy

he nodded at the girls

then he turned to me and lowered this voice to a whisper.

"lana, can i please speak to you outside? you didn't respond to me last night."

"why, i told you i was fine?"

"just... please." he said running this finger through his hair.

"i'll be right back." i said to the girls and got up following ethan outside the café, shoving my hands into my jacket pocket.

ethan's pov

i was heading to the student café to talk to lana, she always meets her friends here for lunch on tuesdays.

none of this made sense.

she was too beautiful for someone to do that to her. it was hard for me to express my feelings and she knows that. i don't know why i have to be like this but becoming vulnerable and people knowing how i feel, scares the shit out of me.

one of my many weaknesses.

ever since i become best friends with her brother ryan, i was always making sure she was okay. i've been in love with her practically my whole life.

i made my way over to the table as lex pointed me out, i bit the tip of my tongue. straddling the chair next to lana.

i nodded at the girls and they smiled in return.

then i turned to lana and lowered my voice to a whisper.

"lana, can i please speak to you outside? you didn't respond to me last night."

"why, i told you i'm fine?"

"just... please."

"i'll be right back." and followed me outside

i pushed open the heavy doors and turned towards her.

"look, i don't mean to be pushy but what the fuck is going on here?" i asked "he slaps you and you say you're used to it?"

"leave it alone please." she almost pleads.

i look her dead in the eye

"i'm fine, i can handle it." she continues

she's lying. i know when she's lying

i take a deep breathe, what the fuck do i do. i need to protect her.
