Reader's POV

Strange. Iwaizumi was acting strange. He seemed stressed since he left dinner to take a call last night.
"I wonder what it was about..."
After Iwaizumi came back from his call, he went to sleep. Hanamaki left soon after and I was the one left with the work. This morning, Iwaizumi left the appartement earlier than usual. I didn't even get to see him. "What's gotten into him?"
It was not like I was expecting an answer. I was just talking to the dishes I was cleaning in the café. It was a calm day. We didn't have much costumers, so we were mostly hanging around in the kitchen or the staff room. I would've loved to talk to Sami about everything, but she had lectures right now. Her shift started in the afternoon when mine ended. Sometimes it just was like that.
New costumers came in and I prepared to take their orders. When I entered the café, I was surprised to see our costumers were Hanamaki and another guy. I recognized him from the train station when Iwaizumi was looking for me. If I remembered right, his name was Matsukawa. I went smiling towards their table, my little notebook and a pen in my hands ready to note their orders.
"Oh, miss [L/N]! What a nice surprise!"
"I could say the same, Hanamaki."
Hanamaki's friend looked confused between the two of us, before nudging him in the side. "How did you become besties all of a sudden?"
Hanamaki and me laughed at Matsukawa's confusion. "We're not really besties. Hanamaki had dinner with us last evening. But enough chatting already. What can I do for you?"
I raised my notebook and pen higher, waiting for them to order. The boys first looked confused, before realizing their purpose for coming here. "Ah, right! We just came here for a green tea and some cookies." Hanamaki smiled like a child that asked his mother for sweets. I raised an eyebrow and looked at Matsukawa. "The same for you?" He nodded. I smiled at them and went into the kitchen to make everything ready. I boiled water and put six big cookies on a plate. "[L/N], how about you take a small break?" I turned around to see the owner entering the kitchen with his usual smile on his face. "Sure. I'll just bring this order out." The owner nodded as I headed out.
"Here you go. Tea and Cookies."
Both boys looked satisfied while I served their orders. "Why don't you join us, [L/N]? Have a cookie with us!"
"Since I'm on my break now, why not?"
I sat down and took smiling the cookie Hanamaki handed to me. Then he introduced Matsukawa and me properly. We were talking a bit, mostly about Iwaizumi. "I can't believe he chose a pretty girl like you to become his roommate. Iwaizumi used to be reserved when it came to girls", Matsukawa remarked. Hanamaki nodded in agreement. "It was mostly Oikawa though. He's always surrounded by girls. Who wouldn't get annoyed with that?"
I furrowed my brow. "So, was Oikawa a playboy? I can't imagine Iwaizumi hanging out with someone like this."
"Well", Hanamaki started, "They've known each other since elementary school, before Oikawa became so popular. And he's not the kind of person who would just date any girl for fun. I think he appreciates the affection he gets, but still decides with his own feelings. Oikawa is not a bad person and I think Iwaizumi is the one who acknowledges him the most. The two of them trust each other like no one else, but you're right. Their different personalities do leat to problems sometimes. But that doesn't mean they can't overcome them."
For a moment, we fell silent. Hanamaki's words still echoed in my thoughts. Oikawa... He really must be important to him...
"Speaking of the devil, has Iwaizumi told you about Oikawa's call last night?"
"What?"
Iwaizumi rarely talked about him. We didn't even get the chance to talk about it, since Iwaizumi was kinda avoiding me. Now I know why.
"Guys, it was nice talking to you, but I think I should go back to work now.
I thanked Hanamaki and Matsukawa for their company and their kindness and went back into the kitchen. I spent the rest of my shift cleaning the kitchen or sorting our goods. Not a single minute was spent in which I didn't think of what Hanamaki said. Oikawa called last night and Iwaizumi acted strange. Why wouldn't he talk to me?
I couldn't even greet Sami properly who was relieving me from my shift. She gave me a worrying look and I told her I would talk about it later. I didn't know when later would be, but all I wanted to do was getting home, facing Iwaizumi and cross that border between us that was named Oikawa.

"I'm back!"
Silence. I knew Iwaizumi was home. I went into the living room/kitchen area, partly mad, partly insecure. When I saw Iwaizumi standing in the kitchen area, my body stopped moving. He stared at me, his face said despair. In his hand, he held his phone with the screen still on. I opened my mouth to say something, but no words came out.
"Hanamaki texted me. Are you mad?"
How could I be mad by the sight of him? He was saying "I'm sorry with his whole body. I shook my head and approached him. "I just wish you would talk to me already. I hate being pushed aside whenever something's going on with Oikawa. I know you don't have to tell me everything, but let me help if there's something I can do for you."
Iwaizumi listened to my almost whispered plea. I stood right in front of him, a few centimeters were separating us. Iwaizumi's breath was shaking. I could see in his eyes, that he was thinking. To reassure him, I took his shaking hands in my calm ones. My gesture took him by surprise, but eventually, he smiled tenderly. "It's not that I don't want to talk about it. I would've had to tell you either way." Iwaizumi took a deep breath before he looked me in the eyes. His gaze completely changed into a series look. Oikawa has a semester break and he will come back to Japan during that time."
It took me a while to process his words.
"So...do I get to see him?"
Iwaizumi let go of my hands, turned around and ran his hands through his hair. He sighed before turning back to me. "Hanamaki told you he called last night. He'll be staying at his parents' place, but of course he wants to visit us."
"Us?"
Iwaizumi nodded. "I told him about you, since you're the one living in his room for now. He wants to meet me as his friend and you out of curiosity." I tilted my head in confusion. I didn't see why that was a bad thing and why Iwaizumi seemed so afraid. Before I could even ask, Iwaizumi answered the question. "We parted in bad terms. I told you about our misunderstanding, right? Well anyways, We've been avoiding the subject ever since. I don't know if it's the fear of losing a friend or the awkwardness that the whole situation created. It felt safe having Oikawa far away from here, everything could possibly go wrong. But now that he's coming back, I'm not sure if I can face him right."
My eyes literally hung onto his lips, analyzing every of his words. It really was a topic I couldn't help much with. I just had no idea how these two wer working together. They were like two completely different worlds. What is the right thing to say?
"Hanamaki told me about it. He said you acknowledge Oikawa. He also said that you trust each other and that you have the ability to overcome your problems and differences. I don't know what it was that makes you so insecure, but I'm sure none of you want to lose such a precious friend, so get yourself together and face your friend with pride and confidence, Iwaizumi Hajime!"
My hands slapped his cheeks, holding his face. Iwaizumi looked at me with wide opened eyes. We stayed like this for a moment, before Iwaizumi suddenly started laughing. He laughed so hard, I was afraid I might have broken him. "Is everything okay?"
Iwaizumi shook his head, still laughing and came a step closer to me. "Don't worry I'm fine. I can't believe I had to let you slap me before realizing how childish I was acting."
Iwaizumi smiled and rubbed his cheeks which were slightly red. Would you call me by my first name again? It's... uh... cute when you say it." This time, Iwaizumi caught me by surprise. I felt my cheeks heating up, as if I was the one being slapped. "S-Sure! Then you call me by my first name too!"
I felt happy. We finally made another step forward. But speaking of steps forward, Iwaizumi took the last step that separated us physically and took me in for an embrace. This time, not only my face, but my whole body was heated. My heart raced like crazy and so did my mind. I didn't know what to do, so I returned the embrace. Maybe it was just what he needed.
"Thanks, [F/N]."
