[F/N] POV
Hajime and I waited for about twenty minutes. We didn't talk much, but I could feel his nervousness. I looked through the masses in front of us, trying to figure out who might be Hajime's friend. It was useless for I didn't know what he looked like. I gazed over to Hajime, who was watching all those people passing by, but his face only showed nervousness rising with every second.
"Are you sure you will be fine?"
He didn't answer. Maybe because he was too focused on finding Oikawa, or maybe because I spoke too silent. I sighed and looked back to the people walking around. "I'm sorry, did you say anything?"
I turned back to Hajime, who looked at me in confusion. I shook my head, telling him it was fine. Hajime looked away, a flush of red on his cheeks.
"I'm sorry. I'm just a bit-"
"I know."
I smiled at him reassuring and he smiled back."Iwa-chan, I'm back."
The unknown voice startled me and I instinctively took a step back. My gaze went to the source of the voice and I saw a male person standing in front of me. He was a bit taller than Hajime and he looked so much more different. While Hajime seemed so... manly, the person in front of me appeared softer. His smile was warm and welcoming and his eyes absorbed my attention. For a moment, I forgot everything around me until Hajime blocked my view.
"Welcome back, Oikawa."
Hajime gave his friend a pat on his shoulder and turned to me. I took me a moment to get back from whatever world I just entered but eventually, I realized. "So, this is your friend?" I asked Hajime, examining Oikawa once more. Hajime nodded and introduced me to his friend. His full name was Oikawa Tooru and he visited a school for sports as a preparation for his participation in the national volleyball ball team.
"You see, [F/N]-chan, once I return to japan, I'll be a regular player in no time! You can even come to see me play."
Oikawa winked at me, but he quickly received a hit on the back of his head by Hajime. "Don't just call her by her first name. Let's get going." Without waiting for a reply, Hajime headed out of the airport. "Iwa-chan, you meanie! You're calling her by her first name too, aren't you?"
He followed Hajime and I tagged behind, watching their discussion.
"It's because we're friends, Trashykawa!"
"Well, I want to be friends with [F/N]-chan too!"We got home the way we left the airport. Hajime and Oikawa were bickering like children the entire time. I wondered if they've always been like this. As soon as we entered the appartement, Oikawa suddenly stopped calling Hajime a meanie and looked amazed around him.
"I see you made quite a few changes in here."
He slowly went around, gradually taking a vase or other decorative items in his hands and putting them down again. Hajime headed straight into the kitchen area to prepare dinner. I watched Oikawa's actions when I heard Hajime cursing. "What's wrong, Iwa-chan?" Oikawa stopped what he was doing and slowly went towards Hajime. I joined them, curious about what's going on.
"We're out of oil."
"Whoops, I forgot to buy it", I said with a guilty tone in my voice. It was even on the shopping list, so how could I forget it? Hajime sighed and shook his head. "Don't worry about it. I'll go and get some-"
"No I'll do it!"
I didn't hesitate to answer. It was my mistake, so I had to make up for it. I looked into Hajime's eyes with determination and he answered my gaze with concern. "It's getting dark outside. You shouldn't just wander around all on your own."
"Then I'll go with her."
Oikawa folded his hands together and smiled at me. He looked like a child, ready to visit an amusement park.
Either way, this would solve the problem. I looked at Hajime and raised an eyebrow. In the end, he agreed. I smiled victorious and got ready to go out.
"Do you need anything else?", Oikawa asked as he put on his coat.
"No, just hurry up already. I invited Hanamaki and Matsukawa. They'll be here soon."
Oikawa hummed satisfied and headed out. After grabbing my keys, I followed him and waved Hajime goodbye. "We'll be back soon!"The way to the supermarket was quiet. I wasn't sure how to talk to Oikawa, so I spent the whole way thinking of any topics. Hajime was so natural around him. But it was no wonder considering they were childhood friends. Even though Oikawa was walking right in front of me, he seemed so distant. Didn't he say he wanted to be friends? Or did he say that because Hajime was there?
"I don't get it..."
"Get what?"
Of course I had to think out loud enough for my subject of concern to hear. Still walking, Oikawa turned his head to my direction and gave me a questioning look. I could feel my cheeks heating up in embarrassment. I looked to the ground and watched my feet taking step after step. I couldn't answer and apparently, there was no need to. Oikawa had a new question to ask.
"Say, [F/N]-chan... do you like Iwa-chan?"
"What?!"
I literally screamed this word out. We barely talked to each other and he asked this question already? I stammered some words and things that were supposed to be words but turned out as strange noises. "Uh... well... I... uh..."
Oikawas laugh interrupted me.
"You sound rather confused than flustered. Don't tell me you didn't realize it yourself?"
In fact, I didn't. I didn't think about it. Sami was making fun of me the whole time about being in love with Hajime, but I considered them as simple jokes.
"I don't know... but how can you even tell? We just met today!"
Oikawa snickered. "It's in your eyes. They look just like mine did back then."
"Like... yours?"
Oikawa started explaining of how he and Hajime used to be together all the time, how he got Hajime into volleyball, made him his team's ace and eventually realized he had fallen in love. He said he suddenly confessed, got his heart broken and abruptly decided to leave the country.
"So you never had a chance to talk things through..."
"What is there to talk about? I knew Iwa-chan wouldn't share my feelings and I knew he needed some distance after that."
"But still..."
Hajime is your friend. He would never abandon you. Not after everything he told me. You can still talk about it. I wanted to say these words, but they echoed in my mind until they were gone completely without leaving my mouth. After this whole conversation, I felt pretty down. "I might have ruined the atmosphere, I'm sorry about that, [F/N]-chan. Wanna hear some funny stories about Iwa-chan in high school?"
I couldn't say no to this. I wanted to hear about Hajime from Oikawa's point of view. While he talked, I could feel the affection Oikawa had for his friend and my heart felt warm. Until we got back home, Oikawa told me all kinds of stories about Hajime and I listened to them with great amusement. When we got back, Hanamaki and Matsukawa were already there. They were nibbling some snacks while Hajime sat impatiently with them. "You sure took your time", he said when we entered the appartement. "Sorry Iwa-chan, but [F/N]-chan and me had a great time exchanging secrets, you know?"
Hajime took the bottle of oil from Oikawa and punched his arm.
"Stop joking around, Shittykawa."
"Guys, we're hungry."
Matsukawa spoke out, what Hanamaki and I were thinking. Hajime immediately stopped bickering with Oikawa and started to make dinner. I started eating some snacks and didn't realize I was staring at Hajime the entire time. For a moment, I took the time to pay attention to my body. My heart was pounding very fast, my face felt heated, my mind went crazy. My eyes moved from Hajime to Oikawa who was meeting my gaze with a smirk. He told me and now I realized it.I fell in love with Hajime.
