Iwa's POV

Weeks have passed since I made this stupid rule. I overreacted. No doubt. But [L/N] took the rule as it was and didn't mention Oikawa since then. It's not that I hated him, he was just an uncomfortable topic. [L/N] herself was also acting weird ever since then. She tried to be normal, but whenever I talked to her, she startled. To be honest, I felt sorry. I tried to talk to her as much as possible, asked her about her job, university and even tried to make her laugh. Oikawa once said that I'm more frightening when making jokes with my face. Maybe he was right. My new plan was now, to take her out. I thought we could go to the city and eat out. It may have been the plan, but [L/N] was late. She should've been home about an hour ago. I guessed she had to work extra, but I couldn't help but to worry. If she came too late my whole plan would've been ruined. That's why I decided to talk my wallet and my key and stormed out of the appartement. I took a taxi to the café and arrived only to see an old man locking the small building. Shit.
I hastily paid and left the taxi to get the man before walking away. "Excuse me, sir!" I literally ran towards the owner who looked at me with confusion. When I stood before him, he smiled. "I'm sorry, young man. The café is closed. Did you need something."
I shook my head. The man nodded and turned to go. I saw him walking away, but in the end, I really needed something. "When did [L/N] leave?"
The man stopped for a moment and turned around. Even from the distance, I could see him smile. "She left a few minutes before me. I think she went to the central station with her colleague. If that's all, I wish you a good evening."
"Good evening."
Without spending a second thought, I ran towards the central station. I can make it. I can make it. I can make it.
There were things I had to tell her. If I want to get along with her. I had to set things right. I wasn't sure if I was taking the same route as [L/N], but we would meet at the central station at last, right? In fact, I arrived at the station before her. But where was she? I waited at the main entrance and looked around.
"Iwaizumi? Is that you?"
The sound of a familiar male voice, startled me. I turned around and saw two old school mates: Matsukawa and Hanamaki.
Both of them were hiding their dirty smirks behind their hands. "You know, you look very suspicious", Matsukawa said. I hauled off to punch him, but Matsukawa easily dodged.
"Iwaizumi?"

"Another one telling me that I'm suspi-"
Aaaah. Shit.

Reader's POV

Iwaizumi got loud again. Whether or not he wanted it, it hurt. I didn't do anything. I didn't mean to annoy him. I never meant to. I just saw him with these two other persons and wondered what he was doing here. I, for my part, was on my way home to cook dinner. I even declined Saya's offer to go out with her. But still, he acted like that. I've had enough. I didn't say anything. Instead, I just turned around and intended to go. Before I could even take a step, he grabbed my wrist. "Wait!" His voice was loud again. But this time it wasn't loud of anger. He was desperate. I turned to look into his face. Everything on him said "I'm sorry", so I stood still and waited for him to say anything. "I... uhm..." Iwaizumi looked down amd saw that he was still holding my wrist. Embarrassed, he quickly took his hand back. Iwaizumi looked a while onto the ground, before looking me directly into my eyes. "I think we need to talk. How about... dinner? The two of us in this new restaurant... the one that opened recently-"
"Oh~ Is our Iwaizumi asking someone out on a date?"
"SHUT UP MATSUKAWA AND GET LOST WITH YOUR PERVY FACE HANAMAKI!"
Before Iwaizumi could say anything more, the guys went off, laughing.
Seeing him being so close to people who could make him react like that, I had to laugh out loud. Iwaizumi turned back to me. He tilted his head in confusion and I just shook my head, letting him now that everything was fine. After the situation calmed down, a moment of silence followed.
"Uhm..." Iwaizumi was the one to break the silence. He scratched the back of his neck and blushed. In spite of his embarrassment, he looked me in the eyes, making me blush as well. "The reason I'm here is... We have to talk. About this rule, about Oikawa, about this whole situation." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. This whole situation was obviously straining him. In response, I nodded. I turned to go ahead and signaled Iwaizumi to join me. We went to said restaurant, chatting a bit about our day. But in the end, we were too nervous to lead an actual conversation. I couldn't wait to arrive at the restaurant and listen to what Iwaizumi had to say. I just hoped it wouldn't end in a disaster. Oikawa Tooru was a heavy topic and I didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable or anger him. That's why I decided to do my best and understand him. This has to go well. I see him as someone interesting. I want to know him. I want to be more than a roommate. Whatever it is, i want to be it.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice that we arrived. Iwaizumi opened the door and gestured me to enter, which I did with a shy smile. We took place in a corner. The restaurant was calm. The lights were dimmed and classic music was silently playing in the background. Even though the restaurant opened not long ago, there were only a few people in here. What should I say? The atmosphere was quite... romantic. A beautiful waitress came to us to take our order. It didn't took long and we were served our meals. It looked gorgeous! We started eating, enjoying our meals in silence. It was probably better to talk after we ate. This conversation could spoil our appetites. But... if anything went well, I would order a dessert!
"[L/N]."
There I was deepened in my thoughts again. I hope I didn't made any weird faces before Iwaizumi called me back.  I looked at him and changed my sitting position, leaning closer to Iwaizumi and signaling him, that I was listening. "What I wanted to say is... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have reacted like that and I definitely shouldn't have made this childish rule."
Iwaizumi broke the eye contact and buried his face in his hands. I immediately reached out to his arm, just to show him I was here.
"If you don't want to talk about it, then you don't have to." Iwaizumi looked up and I gave him a smile. He smiled back, with a deep sigh.
"No, it's fine. It's just that... my relationship with Oikawa is difficult. We've known each other since elementary school and are close friends. Or maybe I should say we were... I don't know."
Iwaizumi took his glass beer and just looked into it. He seemed spaced out while he was talking, as if he was running through a dream for a second time. "What happened?" I asked in a whispering tone. The male answered without looking at me. "We had a kind of... misunderstanding, something grave. I can't tell you the details, but that's also the reason why he's gone now and I think I played a big part in this."
"Do you mean you can't be together anymore?"
Iwaizumi shook his head. "We don't hate each other, but we need this distance right now. Sometimes... I do get a little lonely without him."
Iwaizumi smiled. But he's still dreaming...
For a moment, it got silent again. The smile he was wearing, was full of sadness. I leaned back in my chair, thinking about what I could do for him. Minutes have passed and we still didn't say a thing.
"Is there something I can do for you?"
The waitress broke the silence and smiled at us. I smiled back and shook my head. "I'm fine, thanks. How about you?" I looked at Iwaizumi, who looked confused to me and then to the waitress. He took a moment to think. "Two pieces of your 'Ultimate Chocolate Cake', please."
The waitress nodded satisfied and went off. I looked confused at Iwaizumi, who just shrugged. "I need something sweet right now."
"So you're eating two pieces of diabetes-delivering cakes?"
I knew exactly that the second piece was for me, but I made him laugh and that was my objective.
The waitress served our cake and I was right. I've never seen so much chocolate in one dessert. On the top of the cake were strawberries, but they were nothing compared to the chocolate cake including pieces of chocolate in all kinds. Even the icing was out of chocolate.
"I'm gaining weight just by looking at it!"
"And there you go, eating it anyway."
I just shoved the first bit in my mouth, looking at Iwaizumi like a thief that got caught in the act. Iwaizumi laughed again. I never got to see him laughing like that before. It felt good. I felt reassured knowing that the tension between us was gone. Now our relationship was going somewhere. And it was just the beginning of something great. I couldn't tell what it was, but a good life would start now.
