Semester holidays were coming to an end. Iwaizumi and me did quite a lot in that time, like visiting an aquarium. I had a lot of fun pointing at the most ugliest fishes and telling Iwaizumi they looked alike. Iwaizumi threatened me to throw me out of the appartement, but I knew he was just joking. The other day we went to a furniture store to see if we find anything to improve the appartement. And one day we went to the café I worked in to finish our essays for University. I felt like the costumers who were on a studying-date. Mostly because Sami was throwing dirty gazes towards us.
I didn't care, since it was obvious that we were just friends doing our assigned work. There was no way any of us could develop any deeper feelings for the other, right? On the other side, we grew pretty close pretty fast. "That's just how it is... as roommates..."
"Did you say anything?"
"N-Nothing!"
Today was a rainy day, so Iwaizumi and me were at home. We just finished lunch and it was my turn to clean the dishes. Iwaizumi kindly helped out, but we weren't particularly talking. I was either thinking or enjoying the rain.
"They said it's gonna be like this the whole weekend", I said almost whispering. The last weekend of our holidays was approaching and it was supposed to rain the whole time.
"Hopefully not. I was hoping to go to the summer festival on Sunday."
I looked at Iwaizumi in curiosity. He never mentioned it before.
"You're going with your friends?"
Iwaizumi looked at me and raised an eyebrow. "Usually yes, but this time I wanted to take you there... if you don't have any other plans. "No I don't!"
I literally screamed from excitement and leaned closer to Iwaizumi. My sudden action made him jump a little and I saw a slight hint of red on his cheeks. I stepped back, realizing I may went too close. "Sorry. I'm just a bit excited."
I looked away, smiling shyly and drying my hands. I felt Iwaizumi's gaze on me. Congratulations. He thinks you're weird now. I gazed to Iwaizumi and our eyes met. "I think I'm going to study for a bit." With these words, I went into my room, leaving a confused Iwaizumi behind.~Time Skip & Iwaizumi's POV~
Just as [L/N] said, it was raining today too. I spent the whole day praying it would stop when we had to leave for the festival. "I'm sure it'll be fine", [L/N] kept saying. She was looking forward to this day too and her words calmed me down a bit. I went to the kitchen area for tea. "Do you want some tea too?" [L/N], who was sitting on the couch and watching news, nodded. So I made tea and sat down next to her.
"Is there anything new?"
"No, I'm waiting for the weather"
I placed her tea cup in front of her on the table. [L/N] smiled with a silent "thanks" before her eyes got focused on the TV screen again. I examined her face closer, realizing she wasnt really watching TV. She seemed rather absent, lost in thoughts. I realized I was literally staring at her,, so I hastily turned to watch the TV screen.
"Look, [L/N]. They're showing the weather now."
"Finally!"
I couldn't help but to giggle. [L/N] sounded not only relieved, but livelier than before.
"I didn't know you were so eager to see the weather forecast", I said and laughed at her. The girl puted and punched my arm. "Don't tell me you're not interested in today's weather!" I was still laughing, so I couldn't response. But [L/N] was right. Of course, I was hoping the weatherman had good news for us and there they were: The sky was supposed to clear up, giving the perfect conditions to see tonight's fireworks. [L/N] and me cheered as if we won the lottery. "Sould we get ready?", I asked [L/N] as I took a sip from my tea. She nodded with a big smile on her face. I jumped off the couch and headed straight into my room to get ready. "It's still raining, but we shouldn't waste any time to be there as soon as it stops!", I called from my room. [L/N] agreed, calling from her room next door. As soon as we were ready, we left our appartement.I knew it was raining, but I still forgot my umbrella. Sighing and cursing myself on the inisde, I glanced over to [L/N], who was about to open her umbrella. As she noticed my gaze, she smiled and offered me to join her. Since I was "slightly" taller and the one seeking shelter, I took the umbrella from her to hold it. We barely spoke on our way to the summer festival. We were rather appreciating each other's companies. "Have you been there before?" I looked into the sky and watched the rain fall down. "To the festival? I've been there a few times, but the last time was a few years ago."
I let [L/N]'s words weigh in my head. I really liked the summer festival. Even though it was crowded, I enjoyed the bright atmosphere. The traditional paper lamps hanging at every stall, the smell of the food, especially agedashi tofu and of course, the fireworks. I found a little happiness in these things and I hope [L/N] could enjoy them too.
We arrived at the festival, when the rain was nearly gone. There weren't too many people, but I was sure it would change during the evening. "Where do you want to go first?", I asked [L/N]. "I don't know", she answered and smiled shyly.
I looked around. There were so many different stalls and things to do. I suggested [L/N] to see the stalls one by one and stop if we see anything interesting. She agreed and so, we went to see the colorful, bright and creative stalls. [L/N] made me wear a ridiculous Oni Mask before eating some tasty food. It was a great evening. As I thought, the crowd got bigger the closer the fireworks were.
"[L/N], are you still keeping up?"
I turned around to [L/N] who was having a little trouble getting through the people. I reached for her wrist, so she wouldn't get lost and moved on. I heard her stammering, but I couldn't understand a thing. Everything around us was too loud. I stopped and turned around to face her. "It's almost time for the fireworks. I know a spot where we can watch them quietly. Shall we go?"
[L/N] nodded and I led her to the spot where I used to go with my former volleyball teammates. I was surprised they weren't here, but I didn't come here to hang out with them. We were on an open spot on a hill. From here, we could see the whole festival. We sat down on the grass and watched the flood of people preparing for the fireworks as well. Seeing the lights and hearing the unintelligible voices of the people down there, I started to feel nostalgic.
"What are you thinking about?"
[L/N] looked at me and smiled. She smiled a lot at me recently. I smiled back and shook my head. My gaze went back to the festival. I ripped out some grass from the ground and threw it piece by piece in front of me.
"It's just that... I used to come here with my teammates to see the fireworks. You know, with Hanamaki, Matsukawa... and stupid Oikawa."
I leaned my head back and watched the sky. It was clear, the rain was long gone and I could count the stars if I had the time to.
"But... aren't those good memories?"
[L/N] hugged her knees and rested her head on them. I nodded in response. "Come to think of it... High School was quite the time... I'm sounding like an old man." I had to laugh from my own remark and [L/N] laughed too. That was when it started. The first first firework entered the sky, followed by a long and bright tail. At its highest point the light went out for a second, then it returned. Bigger, brighter and with a loud bang. [L/N] and me watched the fireworks in awe. "They're so beautiful." She was whispering, but I understood her words clearly. I turned to look at her. The lights of the fireworks were shining on her face. Her eyes sparkled like a child's eyes on Christmas and I've never seen anything more beautiful than this. "Truly beautiful." I said to myself as I felt my heart beating faster.
