This part of the story will be split into two chapters. If I combined it into one, it would have been too long. Still, this chapter is pretty long.
Enjoy!
ALEXIS
"So... Spring Formal is this Saturday!" Kayleigh squeals. "Has Jeremy asked you yet?"
She's trying to be quiet, since we're in the library, but she's totally failing. It's not like anyone's here anyway, since it's after school.
"No, but it's no big deal," I shrug.
Okay. It is a huge deal. It's already Wednesday and he hasn't asked me anything. He hasn't even hinted anything. I get that he's busy with football, but if he really is that busy, he could always text. It isn't the best way to ask, but it's a hell of a lot better than not asking at all or asking at the last minute. Because now, how would I know if he's even going to ask me?
"I'm sure he's going to ask you today. Stop worrying about it."
"I'm not." I offer a smile. "Has Dan asked you?"
She bites her lip, worried. "Not yet, either."
I shake my head. "He's definitely going to ask you. You shouldn't worry," I assure her. "He's probably just shy."
Daniel and Kayleigh haven't made anything official, just like Jeremy and I, even though it's been a month and it's now the first week of April. That's because Jeremy and I haven't been hanging out and we hardly have time together, since he's been having training and football games so often, and I've been busy studying for tests.
"What is going on with you and Chris, by the way?" she asks me casually.
I narrow my eyes suspiciously at her. "What do you mean?"
"Nothing. I'm just wondering," she smirks. "Oh, and do you need a ride after school tomorrow? Or you could come over to my place and we can plan our outfits for the dance."
Crap.
"No, that's okay. I have... Stuff."
That's not a lie.
Fine, so Christian and I have been hanging out in the park after school most days to play guitar. Not today, though. He said he had plans.
"Oh, cool," she says, tilting her head. "What kind of stuff, exactly?"
"Don't be mad," I confess, squeezing my eyes shut.
God, I suck at lying. Maybe not lying in general, but when it comes to these kinds of things, I'm practically Pinocchio.
"I knew it!" she screeches. "What the hell is going on with you two? Come on, give me details!"
"Nothing's going on! Jeez. He's just helping me with playing the guitar again."
She gapes at me. "Everyday?"
"No..."
She gives me a stern look.
"Most days," I admit.
"Oh. My. God!" she exclaims. "How could you keep this from your own best friend?"
"We're just making music," I defend myself. "No big deal."
Her mouth tilts upwards and she cocks her head. "Making music or making babies?"
"Kay!" I groan.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" She raises her hands. "Okay, just music. Very PG13. I get it."
