Sorry for the slow update and short chapter. :(
ALEXIS
"I'm not hungry, Kay," I sigh, resting my head on my arms on the Lunch table.
She's been asking me why I'm not eating for the past five minutes of Lunch.
"Are you feeling okay? Are you sick or on your period or something?" she asks, concerned. "You don't look too great."
"I'm fine."
She's quiet for a moment.
"Is there a reason why we aren't sitting with the rest today?" she questions softly, but I know she already knows something happened.
"We fought," I mumble.
"You... Want to talk about it?" she offers.
"I yelled at him, he yelled at me." I shrug. "We were talking-arguing-about me dating Jer again. He was acting strange, so I asked him what was bothering him, and he said it was nothing at first, then I guess he couldn't keep it in anymore."
She nods slowly. "And what's his problem with you dating him?"
"He said he doesn't want me to get hurt and stuff like that. He was going to say something else, but..." I frown. "He just stopped."
"He doesn't look too well either, you know," she states, nodding her head towards the Outlaws' Lunch table.
I twist my head to have a look, and true enough, Christian is sitting there looking a little pale with his head in his hands. All of them are looking worriedly at him and Daniel seems to be talking to him quietly.
For a moment, I'm thinking about whether the rest of them know what happened, although it is really obvious from the fact that we're not sitting together and I've been avoiding them as much as possible.
My suspicions are confirmed though, when Matt looks away from Christian to look at me. And he doesn't have to search the rest of the cafeteria; his eyes immediately find mine. He gives me a sad, 'Sorry that shit has to happen' smile and I weakly return it. I'm just glad the rest aren't mad at me too.
I turn back to face Kayleigh.
"What should I do, Kay?" I plead, my voice hoarse. "I never want to lose them, but I don't want to lose Jer, either."
She stares at me for a while. "Who do you think will be with you longer? I mean, say, in ten years time, can you picture yourself meeting the Outlaws for coffee or something, or can you picture yourself married to Jer with kids?"
Honestly, that's a simple question. But I still ponder over whether my answer is right or wrong. I know I may be overthinking this, but isn't it good to have a really speculative view on both sides once in a while?
"Meeting the Outlaws," I whisper, staring down at the table.
"But you don't want to lose Jeremy either."
"Of course not," I sigh.
"But, Lex, do you need him as a boyfriend or can you live with him just being a friend?" she prompts.
I look up at her. "I think you know the answer."
She smiles sadly at me.
"But I can still try to make this work, can't I? I can still try to be with Jer, but at the same time, have Chris as my best friend again? I shouldn't give up so easily," I point out hopefully.
"Well, yeah, I guess... I mean, of course you shouldn't give up," she agrees. After thinking for a moment, she says, "Okay, how 'bout this: we go on a double date."
Has she gone mad?
I stare at her. "A double date?"
"Yes!" she exclaims, more certain of her suggestion. "You and Jer, and me and Dan! It'll be fun! And it'll be easier to see if things are working out between you and Jeremy."
Yes, she has. My poor best friend has gone mad.
I cock an eyebrow. "And why would it be easier?"
Her eyes widen and she shrugs. "Uh, y'know..." Then she snaps her fingers. "Outsiders! Another point of view."
"That actually makes sense, considering you just came up with it like five seconds ago."
"I did not!"
"Whatever. But what if they fight?"
"I'll make sure Dan doesn't do anything, and you make sure Jer doesn't do anything. Simple."
I shake my head vigorously. "Difficult! Very difficult. It's a horrible plan! God... Do you really think just the words of two girls will convince the animalistic and violent minds of two guys?"
"Yes."
I sigh, defeated. There is no way I'm getting out of this.
"You're not giving me a choice, are you?" I pointlessly ask.
"Nope," she replies, popping the 'p' and grinning widely at me.
Next chapter will be longer and, I think, more interesting!
