ALEXIS
We leave shortly after that, when it's just past 2a.m.. We follow the same car arrangement, but Daniel drives since Christian is not completely sober and feels like he might throw up. In the car, I tell him to sleep it off and I let him use my lap as his pillow, which he seems more than content to use.
Daniel wants to send me home first, but I don't want to leave yet because I'll wake Christian up. So I tell him that he can drop Kayleigh off then go to his place and I can walk home from there. He replies saying that Christian wouldn't want me to walk home alone at this hour, but he still complies with what I said.
When we arrive at Christian's and Daniel's house, I help Christian in while Daniel fetches Benedict and Taylor from the neighbour's house. Apparently they babysit the twins when no one's home and Hannah can't take leave from work.
"God, I feel so sick," Christian groans, dragging himself over to his bed.
"I'll stay here with you if you want," I offer, awkwardly leaning against the doorframe with my arms folded.
"It's fine. Dan will be here," he replies, lying down and putting his arm over his eyes to block out any light. "You should get home and rest. Dan can send you home first."
"No," I object, shaking my head. "I don't want to trouble him. He could have sent me home earlier. Besides, with him gone and you unwell, who's going to look after Ben and Tay? This was the plan. We get you home then I walk myself out."
"I don't want you walking home alone. It's not safe."
"Okay, then I'll stay here with you."
He sighs in defeat. "Fine. But you don't have to take care of me. You should just sleep, okay?"
"Okay," I lie. "Um, where should I...?"
He pats his bed. "Here."
My face reddens. "I don't think I... Is that appro- I mean, I don't know," I stutter.
What the hell? You've shared a bed before. Just get over there!
He props himself up on his elbow, concern and confusion on his face. He must be thinking the same thing as me. "Are you uncomfortable with that?"
Get. Over. There.
I take a breath, stepping away from the doorframe and further into the room. "No, it's fine."
Sitting up, he assures me, "No, if you're not okay with it, I'll sleep outside. No big deal, Lexi. Just tell me."
"No way. The last thing I want to be is an inconvenience to you guys. I'm fine here. If I weren't, I'll sleep outside, not you. But I'm fine."
"Alright," he says, still uncertain. "Just let me know if there's anything you need."
Well, I need you.
I nod, licking my lips. "Thank you."
"Anything for you," he smiles. "You want to change out of your jeans?"
"Please," I reply, grateful he asked.
Despite my disapproval of him getting up from bed, he does exactly that to get me a pair of sweatpants to wear. He also allows me to use one of the new toothbrushes in the bathroom cabinet.
After changing and washing up, I walk back into his room to find him lying down again with his eyes fixed on the entrance of the room.
"Do you want the door closed?" I ask.
