"Would you like me to have my staff leave a wakeup call so that you are on time for work in the morning." Charles asked as they drove "I know its been a long day"
"No thank you" Nathalie answered "I don't work right now"
"Oh," Charles said, "How long have you been unemployed?"
"Ah......" Nathalie bit her lip "Today actually, I was late to work for the first time in three years and the owner put a sign in the window to fill my job." She leaned her head back on the seat took a breath and continued "Needless to say we had a few words and I left and ended up at the museum hoping for a miracle" She smiled at Charles with closed lips.
"Humm so am I the miracle that you hoped for?" Charles asked his only response from Nathalie was another closed-lip smile, "Well I would like to be if you let me, what are your prospects for another job, or are you taking a break from working for a while."
"I can't take a break from working as I have a sick daughter and rent and bills and so much more than my salary barely covered to begin with, so the plan was to spend the day at the museum as I might not get that opportunity again anytime soon and hit the pavement and the papers first thing in the morning so maybe I should get that wakeup call as I also have not slept-in in several years so I don't want to be tempted." Nathalie raised her eyebrows suggestively.
"Well, wakeup call it is" Charles said but thought to himself that he would ensure that she slept in late tomorrow and they might not be any reason for her to work ever again, but that would be a subject for another time, "What kind of job are you looking for? I might be able to help with something in one of my companies."
"You can help find me a job at one of your companies, how many companies do your parents own now," Nathalie asked.
"We and by that I mean mostly me; own several companies in several different sectors of the economy" Charles paused "from print to manufacturing, tourism, and retail. The manufacturing companies are worth the most and it was my idea to expand from printing to manufacturing so I have kept most of the profits, my parents were not pleased at first but like all people from wealth they like more money and more money I made so they allowed me to continue to expand into different companies and I have done a good job so far so they leave me alone, for the most part."
"Wow you seem to have clearly accepted the role of king of the kingdoms," Nathalie said
"King of the Kingdoms" Charles repeated and laughed out loud, he had not heard that in a long time, well since college and Nathalie "No one has called me that since you a very long time ago" he smiled appreciatively of being pulled down a notch, somewhat made him feel human.
"Well, I am going to have to bring it back then." Nathalie's smile broadened and showed some beautiful teeth, Charles reciprocated.
"So back to the question at hand, would you like to work for me? I would not be your boss I might just be able to control him so that you get paid for relaxing all day. I don't think you should work too hard maybe a break is what is needed." Charles said and shrugged, raising his hands off of the steering wheel.
"I don't know, I will have to think about it. I don't want to impose too much or make you feel that I want to abuse your kindness in any way"
"Nathalie, I would never think that besides I'm volunteering, we have a child together-apparently-and I have not been able to help before, I can provide for the both of you. I know that you have been on your own for a while but you can't tell me that it is not a relief to get a break from being responsible for everything. That is a miracle!" Charles threw in hoping to touch her inner desire for a miracle especially one which would free her from life's burdens.
