"Now, without delay, let's get our first event started." Aunt Night chorused as a digital screen glitched on behind her. "These are the qualifiers! It's at this stage that so many are sent home crying every year! And the fateful event this year is..."

Black dots circulated in the centre of the screen, moulding together to form the big, bold letters;

"...the Obstacle Race Course!"

What I thought to be a brick wall split into different zig-zagged shapes, opening up to reveal a small, long space into the race.

"It's a race between every member of the eleven classes!" Aunt Night continued, "the course is a four-kilometre lap around the stadium itself! Our school preaches freedom in all things! As long as you don't go off course, anything is a fair game!" She whipped her whip in the air, signalling for the competitors to get into our positions. "Racers, to your positions..."

I felt a heated stare at the side of my head, and when I looked, I was faced with Shouto's gaze. He mouthed two words to me, 'watch me'.

"...START!!"

"OKAY, HERE'S THE PLAY-BY-PLAY!" Uncle Mic's voiced buzzed as his volume increased, overlapping the chaos we were exhibiting -- everyone started pushing through the narrow gate, the weaker ones falling down from everybody trampling on them, leaving them far behind in the dust.

"ARE YOU READY TO DO THE COMMENTARY, MUMMY-MAN?"

"You're the one who forced me to come."

Ignoring Uncle Ai's blunt ignorance, Uncle Mic pumped up the crowd once more. "LET'S GET STARTED RIGHT AWAY, MUMMY-MAN! WHAT SHOULD WE PAY ATTENTION TO IN THE EARLIER STAGES?"

I could practically feel Uncle Ai's hard stare on me as if telepathing to me how to win. I briefly glance back at him, his dull, bloodshot eyes meeting my clear, white ones. "This part right now."

Ah, so the gate itself was the first obstacle. I smirked as I activated my quirk. I reached my arm into the empty space above me and sliced across the wind, frosting it into a bar of nitrogen, before I heaved and balanced on the top of it and skid on the air towards the front at the speed of light.

It seemed I was not the only one who made it out, as a gust of wind blew my hair into my face and the sudden drop in temperature sent a shiver ran down my spine. Just when I was going to look back to confirm what was going on, the crowd behind my back spoke up for me;

"Yowch! I'm all frozen! I can't move!"

"So cold!"

Yeah, no shit sherlock.

Momo shouted, "too easy, Todoroki!"

"I AIN'T LETTING YOU GET AHEAD THAT EASY, HALF-AND-HALF!" Bakugo roared.

All the resounding shouts of victory after that left me thinking. Certainly, I expected most of those from our class would make it out, but... I pursed my lips -- more managed to get out of it than I thought would. However, if I keep going at this pace, no hero would even think about scouting me -- I've got to show my other skills as well. Suddenly, Mineta was whacked to the side, tumbling off-course. My eyes widened in surprise, not expecting another obstacle so soon.
