"Hey, you okay?"
I try to sound concerned,
But I can barely hear my own voice.
It's hard to look away,
I want to freeze this moment.
My grip on her arm,
Her skin bare against mine,
Her face even more beautiful,
Without a strand of hair on her face,
Her wide eyes mesmerizing,
Her lips parted, challenging me all over again...
I want us to stay like this.
I want her to stay with me like this.
I want her to stay.
I want her.
She's shivering under my touch,
I can feel her pulse racing,
Almost as hard as mine.
She nods and then moves,
Shakes off my hold,
And I flinch.
"S-s-s-sorry."
At that moment, all I can think about is
How beautiful her voice is.
Like that of an angel singing.
And how I'd like to hear it say my name,
Like it's the only name in the world that she knows
The only name in the world she can call hers.
But then she's gone.
Like she was never there.
