❝ the forest is perilous , ❞ he begins with a spit of words mixing with usual slyness of his voice , ❝ overrun by vicious , bone - chewing felines . beasts that destroy everything in their path to conquer a piece of land , a morsel of food . leaving bloodshed & chaos in their wake . ❞ saccharine eyes glare at the trees , towering beyond the worn , stone garden wall . as though the woodland could hear him , he let out a warning hiss , the thin fleece on his hackles rising in - sync with the high - pitched noise .
❝ i do not seem to comprehend this marvel you have for it . ❞ with a twitch of his ears , umbra glanced back at his brother . fear was inexistant in the smaller ' s eyes — fear towards the forest at the very least . his indigo wyes never left the sight of the lush , green trees & the darkness that hid behind those rich fronds . a part of the cunning feline knew his intrigue was not in the mere glimpse of trees & bushes alone . there was something else .
silence between them stretched on for what seemed to be eons , but it had only been short of three minutes when augury spoke , ❝ y - you ' re starting to sound like you ' re w - worried about me , ❞ he murmured , tilting his head as his eyes swept over the dark complexion of his litter - mate .
umbra could not resist the cackle that stiffled in his throat . there was never a soft edge of care . clearly , he wanted something from this ; from him . ❝ oh ! my dear brother ! i could not bear to lose you or your lovely competencies ... not when i have grandiose schemes for you . ❞ a devilish smirk tightened around his muzzle . he turned around , tail swishing behind him as he prepared to travel back into the depths of the city .
umbra 's whip - like tail passed under augury ' s chin , bringing his undivided attention towards him . that colorful gaze seemed to widen as he cringed back . the side of his torso brushed against augury ' s flank , as he turned his head to face his little brother . a low growl resonated in his throat , ❝ so unless you ' re desirous for a death wish & plan on getting ravaged by those barbarians , i suggest you stay far away from that forest .
❝ that wall is there for a reason , augury . i expect you to be a good boy & obey it , if you know what ' s good for you . ❞

he needs augury — more specifically , augury ' s seer capabilities — for his grand scheme of things . without augury , umbra can ' t roll with his plans , so there ' s no way umbra ' s going to lose his brother to some dumb , orange - pelted , forest - dwelling brute !
