i actually have a storyboard with this song but because it's unfinished y'all get doodles! anyways, i love dobie, and when i first heard this song i - like many other proud parents of ocs - immediately thought of my two gay sons. it fit so well with their dynamic, especially at the beginning of their relationship where each respectivelly sneak out of their familial setting to be with each other and spend the little time they have together having fun and getting to know each other. they have their doubts that the relationship will even work, but in the end, after many trials and tribulations and some angst, they achieve that glimmer of a happy ending.
