Dear Diary,
This is the first time I'm writing in this book. I just recently got it for Christmas but I haven't had the time to write in it until now. Tomorrow will be my first day here at FrancisCameronAcademy. I've already been at the school for two days. I am rather excited due to the fact that we will have roommates this whole school year. I've already met three of the four. They are Rita Myers, Marianna Blackwell, and Blair Pinckney. We all get along quite well despite only knowing each other for a couple of days and I'm anxious to know if our final roommate will be agreeable as well. I hope she's not like Shirley Gable. Shirley stays in the room across from us and is horrible to talk to. She thinks that just because she comes from a rich family she will be the best at everything. She fails to realize that we all come from rich families otherwise we wouldn't be at this school. FrancisCameronAcademy is not an easy school to get into. You either have to have good marks or be wealthy. I have a little bit of both but I'll have to work very hard to keep up this year. I've already been exploring through the house and found that there is a lot of odd things about this place. For instance, I found a little door in one of the halls. It was tiny, just barely big enough for someone to crawl through. I was going to try to squeeze in through the door to explore but somebody came through the halls before I had a chance to open it. Tonight, when everyone is asleep, I'm going to take a lantern and see what's inside that tiny door. I hope nobody finds it before I have a chance to explore it myself.
E. Trump.
I read through her entry at least 3 times before I sat back and processed it all. She was a real girl who went to this school a century ago. I had no idea why it was called Francis Cameron instead of James Cameron. It made no sense. I wonder if James and Francis are actual real people who founded the school.
Apparently, Eliza had come back to the hidden closet since her name was written on the wall. I couldn't wait to get back into the closet and look at everything again with new eyes.
Eagerly, I opened the book again to read more of Eliza's diary when a bell started ringing from the building. I looked at my phone and groaned; it was time for dinner. By the time I got back to my room, everyone was gone, probably already in the dining room. I quickly stuffed the diary in between the mattress and ran off to the dining hall.
"Sadie! Come sit with us!" I turned when I heard my name being called and saw Rochelle, Tara, and Josie sitting at a table together. After getting something to eat- Pizza and salad- I smiled and headed over to their table.
"This pizza is so good! It's so much better than I thought food here would be." Tara gushed. she stuffed another bite into her already filled mouth. Josie and I laughed at her while Rochelle just sat there looking mildly disgusted by the little bits of food flying out of Tara's mouth.
"Tara? You've got food flying out of your mouth." I burst out laughing and Tara blushed then quickly grabbed a napkin.
Since Tara was preoccupied, Rochelle took the moment to start a conversation. She leaned in and motioned us closer as if she had a huge secret to tell. "Did you guys hear that there's going to be boys coming to our school? They get in next week!"
I was shocked. Wasn't this supposed to be an all girls school? And where were the boys going to stay? Rochelle leaned back disappointed because none of us was very enthusiastic. "Oh come on, that has to be a little exciting. In an all girls school, there's so much drama. Now having boys will balance it out a little." She huffed.
Before she could try and convince us further, a high-pitched shriek pierced the air. I swung to look in the direction it came from and saw a girl standing by the garbage can and jumping up and down. There was a tray with spilled food next to her feet and I guessed that she had dropped it.
"There's a rat!" She shrieked.
Everybody in the cafeteria was silent and a few people walked over to her and started yelling too. I walked over and looked to where the girl was pointing.
Sure enough, laying still on the floor was a dead rat. Everybody was yelling excitedly, some were terrified and some were just laughing. One girl even nudged it with her toe.
Suddenly, there was an ear-splitting whistle and everybody stopped yelling. Ms. Brown stood in the doorway and quickly strode over.
"Alright everybody, they're just little rodents. No need to go into hysterics. Now, I want this place cleaned up, pronto! And Lacy, please pick up your tray and food and throw it into the trash can." Ms. Brown spoke directly to the girl who had been jumping up and down.
Everyone slowly went back to their tables, talking animatedly about the rat. I knew it would be the hot topic for the rest of the night. I just rolled my eyes at how much commotion the girls made.
When I went back to the table, just Rochelle and Tara were sitting there.
"Where's Josie?" I asked.
"She was feeling sick when everybody started talking about rats so I think she went to lay down for awhile." Rochelle informed me.
Both her and Tara started hounding me with questions about the rats and were obviously disappointed at how there wasn't much to tell.
***Thanks for reading! i know this wasn't great, but i'll try to write more soon!***
