Part 16

Micheal wasted no time in getting back up into a defensive crouch, his eyes black with anger and his fangs bared. I hissed at him, daring him to attack.
"Penelope!" James yells but I ignore him. "Step down!"
Suddenly Micheal lunges, his hands outstretched to grab me, but I lean down and flip my legs over my head, catching his head in a leg lock. He stumbles around with my added weight, before he falls. Then I'm wrenched away from him. I look back to see James pulling me. I lean back and push my legs up, kicking him off me. I crouch down, snarling at both vampires. Micheal was growling at me while James hissed.
"Step down." I tell James. "You know you'll die."
"Not if I kill you first, bitch." Micheal growls, before lunging again. He catches me by surprise and I'm thrown back, my head hitting the floor and creating a small hole. He pins my arms down above my head, grinning evilly. "I'll enjoy life without your pesky ass around." He spits before leaning down, baring his fangs, ready to tear my throat out. I struggled under him, but was surprised when his weight suddenly disappeared. I flip over onto my stomach to see that Salina has kicked him off. I then turned to James, who was staring at the fight in front of him with wide eyes.
"Back down or die." I call to him.
He turns his eyes to me. "I'd rather die."
I launch myself at him, pushing him down and grabbing his head, then twisting it until it popped off.
"No!" I turn, seeing Micheal pinned under Salina. He then gives a huge push, throwing Salina off. She falls to the floor.
"Leave." I snarl at him. "Leave and never come back." He growls, looks at James's dead body, then disappears out the door.
Salina turns to me. "You're leader now."
I move to James's body and crouch down, examining him. Then I grab his decapitated head, turning to Salina. "Call an assembly." She nods before disappearing.
I turn to the door and pause, taking a breath. I close my eyes, thinking about back at the apartment complex. About Colby sleeping. Then I walk out to the main hallway, showing myself to the rest of the clan. Many gasps and whispers were heard when I walked in.
I hold up James's head. "James is dead." I state loudly. The room fell silent. "I have taken up the role of leader. And I appoint Salina as second in command." I nod at Salina, who returns the gesture and moves to stand beside me. "Micheal had fled. He tried to kill me. He's a traitor. And anyone working with him shall be given the chance to leave." I pause, looking into each and every face. "Or die."
