Looks like I'm having one of those dreams again. Well, maybe not... He's not here. The Naru from my imagination always turns up when I'm having those dreams. I looked around at the putrid-smelling room that I stood in the middle of. Dark writing appeared on the walls around me in black ink. I shivered as I walked towards them. The only sound I could hear was my accelerating heart. My chest began to close and my throat was begging for me to scream in fear. I felt the air turn cold as my sweat began to stick to my body. I turned to find the door, to run, run as fast as I could. But there was no door, no windows, nowhere to go. I was alone. I sunk to my knees, smacking my forehead in the hopes of waking myself up. I couldn't. I was trapped. Trapped in my dream.

My name is Mai Taniyama, I'm a second year at Sentient university. I work part-time for Shibuya Psychic Research, or as we call it 'S.P.R.' My boss, Kazuya Shibuya is a ghost hunter and the president of SPR. He's very clever; very handsome and above all, VERY narcissistic. Which is why we nicknamed him 'Naru' for short. He may be a narcissist, but even so, I think I may secretly be in love with him.

"Wake up Mai!" I muttered to myself. "You have to wake yourself up!"

"I can help you." A quiet voice whispered through the cool air. I slowly looked up from the ground. A small school desk was sitting in front of me. I couldn't help but wonder where it came from. I took a step towards it and noticed that it was beginning to rot. As I reached it, an older woman with a gorgeous purple kimono appeared behind it. wrinkles covered her skin and her eyes shone with a bright blue tinge.
"I have a proposal for you." Her voice cracked as she spoke. "Your boss's company is about to accept a case that will cause your death, I want to prevent this from happening." I glanced at her, tasting the anxiousness entering my body.

"How? How can I stop that from happening?" I asked her nervously, silently wishing that my imaginary Naru would appear. She smiled at me, a hint of the darkness seeped in her soul could be seen through her glistening eyes.

"I can save you, but all things come at a price."

"What is it you want?" I questioned, knowing throughout my body that I wouldn't like her response.

"I personally will protect you from the fate currently bound to you, however, in return, you are to give me all of your psychic powers." I shivered at the feeling that this woman did not have good intents.

"Why do you want my powers? What use are they to you?"

"I do not answer to you, child. That is not part of the deal!" She hissed in response. "I will give you until this time tomorrow to make your decision!" With that, the room disappeared into a whirlwind and I was left standing in a suburban street in Tokyo. As I looked towards the distance, I could see Naru walking in my direction. That's when I knew I was having one of those dreams.

As soon as Naru was by my side he smiled intently at me.
"What is this place?" I asked, feeling a little unwell from where I had just been.

"It's where we're going for our next case." He replied looking at the house in front of us. It was a decent sized two-story house with a barb-wire fence around the outskirts. I looked at the post box. '41 Curber Street' it read. For some strange reason, this house seemed to be embedded in my mind, but I couldn't seem to pick when it was that I had been here before. I looked to the ground. It doesn't matter, this is the place I'm gonna die. I sighed at the thought. I wasn't ready to die yet. I felt Naru's eyes fall on me and his warm smile disappeared.
"Mai," he asked, bringing my attention to his concerned eyes. "Are you alright?" I was kind of surprised that he would ask me that. Even in my dreams, it doesn't matter if I'm sick or tired; he still usually doesn't check-up on me.

"I'm fine," I said, feeling as though I was lying to myself. "I've just got a strong feeling against this house." For a second he looked as though he was going to pull me up on the lie, but as though deciding against it, he responded:

"All the more reason for us to investigate." For a moment, we both just looked at the house, which out of nowhere began to ripple and warp.

"Woah! What just happened?!" I asked taking an instinctive step back. I tripped on the curb and was fortunate that Naru was able to catch me before I fell flat on my butt. He kept an arm on my back until I was steady before he looked back at the house and answered my question.

"Someone's emotions are reacting with the property, which probably will narrow it down to a house-bound spirit. But I think something pretty bad happened here." He said with what could almost be taken as concern in his voice. Although I didn't say anything at the time, there was a strange feeling bubbling within me. I knew what happened here.

"What's going to happen here?" I whispered. Naru looked towards me.

"I don't know, but whatever it is, It's not going to be good."
