Finally, I had his attention. It was too late for me though. I had disappeared, I'd be forgotten by them by now. I watched Naru snap his head up. At least he'd never have to worry about me knowing his real name. He immediately saw the spirits, dodging them skillfully. For some reason though, I saw a sense of realization hit him. His eyes widened.

"Mai!" He yelled. Turning back to Lin he called his name. Lin whistled for his Shiki to come. With that, three lights zoomed past me, Circling the other spirits. They then disappeared and I felt my energy flowing back. Lins Shiki disappeared soon after. I fell to the ground and looked at my hands which were quickly reappearing. In a heartbeat, Naru was kneeling in front of me.
"Are you alright?" His usual cold tone asked, but his eyes had an unusually caring glint. It took me a few moments before I was able to respond.

"I feel really tired... and weak." Naru nodded at me.

"You had your energy drained," He responded. I paused.

"How? I was completely drained? I had already disappeared? I should have been completely forgotten. How were you able to remember me?" Naru looked away. He wasn't going to answer.

"How did you know?" He asked. I knew exactly what he was talking about. I did consider telling him, but it wasn't the right time. Then I remembered something else. In a panic, I stood up..

"Kaori? Kaori, are you alright?" I saw a faded flicker of light near the door.

"I'm not even alive," He said. "So why did that hurt?"

"They weren't normal spirits," Lin explained. "They were Shiki."

"So you mean somebody was controlling them?!" I exclaimed. Lin nodded.

"Though clearly they weren't very experienced. They were way too easy to destroy to be controlled by an experienced omniyoji."

"But what did they want?" I questioned.

"I'd say the person controlling them wanted your energy and thought the easiest way would be to send Shiki to collect it," Lin told me.

"So do we think that's what happened to Monk and the others?" Naru and Lin looked at each other.

"Miss Taniyama?" Lin spoke. "Who is Monk? What others?" I looked between the two of them in disbelief.
"You don't remember any of them? Ayako, Monk, Masako, John? Any of them? Those names don't sound familiar to you?" They both shook their heads. "I don't get it. Why am I the only one who remembers them?" Both of them stay silent. "Does that mean they're gone forever?" I whimpered.

"I don't know," Naru replied coldly.

"Think about it Naru! Why are we here?"

"Mai," Lin began trying to be comforting. "You brought us here to free your brother." I tried to laugh at the joke.

"Come on Lin, be serious. There's no way that Naru would agree to do that for me." I saw Naru raise his eyebrow from the corner of my eye. "A man named Dale Tremor requested that we come and fix his ghost problem." I looked down and sighed. "What are we going to do now?"

"I don't know, but we're all tired. I think it would be best if, for tonight, we get some sleep." Naru said after a moment. "We'll all sleep in here tonight. There's safety in numbers and we need all the protection we can get." I nodded. "Lin, can you call your Shiki to watch over us?" Lin nodded.

So I found myself in yet another dream that night.

"Mai," I heard an annoyed yet familiar voice say.

"Eugene?" I questioned. As I spoke his name, his form appeared beside me.

"You realize now he will continue to ask how you know his name now?"

"Then maybe you shouldn't have told me!" I retorted, upset that he was getting angry with me.

"Well, what are you going to tell him?"

"I don't know yet."

"Well, you'd better work it out!"

"Well, maybe I'll just tell him the truth!" My attitude breaking out.

"I've already told you what will happen if you do that!" He yelled at me.

"Exactly!" I yelled back. "You've told me! Now let me decide what I'm going to do about it! You know what, I know you're concerned about your brother, but did you think, even for a second that maybe I am too? I said what I felt I needed to in order to save his life!" I told him in anger. "Now leave me alone and let me think!" With that, he vanished.
