-> merliah

Monday rolls in and I talk to Talya beside the bleachers.

"I told Grayson I'm a mermaid."

She spits out her drink with her eyes wide open.

"What?! Why?! Do you know how much trouble you could get into?!"

"No, there aren't any rules that say we couldn't tell humans, T."

She inhales, "Well, you have a point."

"See."

"Don't you think mom would be mad at you?"

"Not if I don't tell or if you don't snitch."

She crosses her arms and smirks, "Maybe."

I softly punch her in the arm. "Hey!"

"Love you!" Talya walks out of the bleachers and disappears in the crowd. I just stay alone there while using my phone.

"Need company?"

I look up it was Andrew.

"I missed you!" I hug him. He hugs me back tight.

"Look I've got something to say to you." We both sat back to the bleachers.

"I know we've been friends for only a short time, and we've never actually hanged out alone."

"But.."

My heart suddenly beats fast. What's he going to say?

"I'm going to leave Australia."

I choke on air, "What?! Why?"

He puts his hands on his lap, "Well, my sister's dream college is in New Jersey, and my mom forced us all to move there too.

I felt so bad I knew so little about him, I didn't even know he had a sister.

"But we haven't discussed everything about ourselves!" I pouted making him laugh.

"To be honest, I have a feeling that when we grow up, we just might be best friends." He shows a pearly smile.

"Does anyone else know about this?"

He smiles, "Literally all of our friends." My mouth widens.

"When are you leaving?"

"The day after tomorrow."

The bell rings and we stood up. Before he turns away, I grab him and leaned in for a hug.

"I'll really miss you."

He pats my head, "I'll miss you too."

I walk to see Stefanie and caught her eye.

"Why do you look so sad?"

"Did you know Andrew was leaving?"

She laughs, "Liah, everyone knows. In fact, he was surprised that you cared."

"Well of course!"

We continue walking having comfortable silence around us.

"You know what we should do?" I ask Stefanie.

She shrugs.

"A farewell party for Andrew!"

Her eyes widen, "Wait that's actually a great idea! We'll plan the party at his house, secretly. I'll text our friends and even some of his."

My eyes lighten up, "Okay, see you!"

~ 5:30

I get a text from Grayson to see if I'm ready to go.
