yo, this is a rant about North from DBH, and yes, this chapter has spoilers for the game. If you haven't seen/played it, I highly recommend you do. This game is awesome.
Okay, I know North is hated enough in the DBH fandom (in fact, I hate her a lot), and there are some good arguments that support her and defend her, but I still really dislike her.
First of all, her character. What the fuck. No matter which route you play, she's violent through and through. It really pisses me off, because I went both Pacifist and Violent, and she's exactly the same no matter what. When you play violent, you only encourage her behavior and make it seem okay, which it isn't.
If you keep on trying to be peaceful, it keeps getting interrupted because North keeps suggesting fuCKING MURDER. Something about North just makes me angry, I was thinking about her this morning and I got legit mad, bruh. She literally has no character development throughout the game, and in the end, we're still forced to be with her as Markus.
I honestly love Detroit: Become Human. The characters are amazing, and I especially love the way the Jericrew is written. Markus is the character we play, so we decide how he acts, but most see him as a peaceful android with a troubled past, and when we're pacifist, we see exactly that. He wants no harm to come to humans, and becomes a great leader to a large group of peaceful protesters. Markus being peaceful leads to a good ending, one where everyone survives.
Simon is a middle man, agreeing with whatever Markus decides and following him loyally (hence my love for this character), and Josh is the android who urges Markus to be peaceful, whilst being kind himself (underrated tbh). And then there's North, made to contrast with Josh, she's violent in nature. She's been abused in the past and had killed a human when she deviated. Sure, her backstory is fine, but her anger persists throughout the whole damn game, I swear.
Honestly, having a character like North is fine, but I would honestly change her a bit to make her more likeable to a majority of the fandom. For starters, she can be violent and aggressive, and keep that throughout a violent playthrough. But when you're trying to be peaceful, she keeps suggesting attacks on humans. I mean, it's fine that she stays angry for a while, but not the whole goddamn time. Take a chill pill, jesus christ. She could be angry at first, and while we start making more and more peaceful protests, North can start to accept that violence is not the answer. I think making this change might be the only way I could actually like North as a character. Not enough to get attached to her like the others, but enough to at least think she's decent.
