The Lotteria Karaoke Bar is located just outside of downtown, in the Gold Coast. Everyone calls it that because it's such a ritzy neighborhood. If you don't live in a million-dollar loft, you live in a million dollar condo. Despite this, it's a popular spot for young people because it has so many clubs and eateries. Lotteria stands out because it's a swanky karaoke bar. According to Lauren it looks like one of those ritzy night spots you'd see a movie star or a socialite in. It has VIP private rooms, table service, and a lighting and furniture combo that screams "we are not a dive".
Before, I used to avoid going out with Sadie and Lauren on their karaoke nights. Wesley and my mom warned me about going to places "unbefitting of a lady of your standing" - yes, they actually said that. In other words, they didn't want me going to places or doing things that would end up making Wesley look bad. Plus, my serious ass was so determined to do well in school that I couldn't be bothered to go out and be social.
Not. This. Time.
I gotta say, I'm feeling myself tonight. I'm not entering the contest, but I still feel like a star. My bands are as blunt as ever but the soft waves give it a little bit of zip. My smokey eyes smolder - here's to hoping no one tries to toss any water in my face to put it out. I firmly in the "edgy" camp tonight, dressed in a black asymmetrical top, wet look leggings, and my beloved witch boots.
Another outfit my mom would absolutely hate.
"I've got a lot on the line tonight, so don't mess with me." You'd think that Sadie was about to play in the semifinals of a professional basketball game instead of entering a karaoke contest. "The loser of the contest picks up the tab for the VIP room we'll be hanging out in later. And I'm not about to spend all my money on you thirsty broads!"
"I'm sure you'll do amazing, Sadie!" Lauren smile can't possibly show all of her enthusiasm. Then again, she's actually seen our roommate in action so she definitely knows more about all of this than I do. "The judges already love you."
"Of course they do. I can sing and I've got that killer stage swagger. They should just give me the $300 prize when I walk through the door." I don't have to look at her to know that she must be smug about it. "After tonight, I'll make sure Kason never messes with me ever again."
I can't help but snicker. I know Sadie's quite competitive and all, but this seems like a bit much. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing her reaction when Ari brings over his friend. Oh geez, what would happen if the friend somehow won the contest? I don't want to think the fallout...
Unfortunately for me, my snicker is a little too loud. Sadie's eyes dart over, curious. "What's with that noise, Finn? You still mad at me for earlier? I said I was sorry about messing it you and Model Boy."
"I'm not mad," I say coolly. "And I accepted your apology. I'd rather hold degrees, not grudges."
"So what? You don't think I can do it?"
"I know you can do it. I've heard your voice - you're great." I have to keep his promise. I have to. "I'm just wondering why you're making such a big deal out of this, that's all."
"I'm not!" Sadie shakes her head. "Why do you think I'm making a big deal out it?"
"I dunno, maybe because you're usually a one-and-done kind of girl. I mean, usually you shut it down with someone and that's it. What makes this so different?"
"It's karaoke! It's always a big deal." Sadie roars. She's clearly upset about me not realizing this already. Which I guess is a fair reaction for Sadie. Still, something feels off. "And it's not my fault Kason is so obsessed with me."
