In the carriage, Shen Yi was lounging lazily on the couch as usual.
The previous marks that Su Chen placed violently were gone.
Everything felt the same.
The same carriage and its navy blue and forest green hues on maroon embroidered cushions for a comfortable ride.
The same irritating person reading the same irritating book.
The same irritating fruits were grabbed and eaten leisurely as if the two did not just ran for their lives.
The only difference is that Shen Yi was lying on a comfortable lap pillow.
The Su Chen lap pillow.
But rather than an angry Su Chen, Su Chen was more dazed than furious.
To the point that Shen Yi could not help but poke her chin irritatingly with some grapes.
Su Chen ignored him.
But the brat insisted to poke her several times before she ate one sweet globular grape to Shen Yi's satisfaction.
He went back to his book as if nothing had changed.
Su Chen felt a little suspicious at this that she actually broke from her reverie to squint her eyes suspiciously at him.
This obsessive boy-child who clang like a vine was not asking her any questions about what happened in the past few days?
This possessive and over-protective bear-like man did not manhandle her immediately in the carriage? Nor did he obsessively check for any injuries on her body?
Su Chen was definitely definitely feeling suspicious.
Alarms were blaring in her head!
Yet Shen Yi, the free-est Sect Master of them all, nonchalantly sat there reading his book on the mating habits of wolves.
Su Chen decisively ignored him.
No point prodding a lying wolf.
She was not so stupid as to get herself into any trouble.
So their journey back to the Silver Wolves hideout was rather peaceful.
Unlike her mad rush and escape out to North Wind on her own together with her entourage, it was a surprisingly peaceful few days of carriage ride.
No hidden assasins.
No crazy ex-husband trying to kidnap her back.
No weird bandits from crazy jealous sister trying to ruin her.
It was all rather... peaceful.
They quietly went past several villages on the way to North Wind and rested and recuperated when they could.
The only thing was that Shen Yi insisted to sleep next to her on the bed. Su Chen wanted to resist but looking at him, she somehow felt like she couldn't.
She finally acquiesced.
Yet the man did not do anything to her, contrary to her expectations.
The perverted man did not even try to hug her to sleep.
Instead, he kept her at a comfortable distance on the big bed and slept with his sword near him.
Su Chen was confused and lost.
But looking at his broad back somehow gave assurance to her so Su Chen had a pretty great good and deep sleep for the days they were on the road.
And so, the days passed uneventfully until they reached the North Wind gates.
The carriage entered and Su Chen breathed a sigh of relief.
The first place they went to was not the Silver Wolf hideout.
But, Stork Pavillion Restaurant instead.
Shen Yi simply opened the door and escorted Su Chen out.
He brought the surprised Su Chen to the door who was met happily by Steward Mo and Yun Yang.
Shen Yi grinned, patted Su Chen's head gently and left there, while Yun Yang and Steward Mo frantically grabbed her to discuss (finally) the changes to their menu.
Su Chen felt helpless at their insistence and followed them in as they dragged her.
Su Chen felt joy and satisfaction to finally be back to something she had passion about.
As she flitted around basically settling loose ends to their business, Su Chen was actually having a surprisingly fulfilling and peaceful time of her life.
Days seem to pass happily and she felt like she did not lack for anything.
But something felt off.
Something felt wrong in this perfect scene.
Su Chen could not help but have her mind fly away occassionally during moments of great happiness among the company of Sui and Yuan.
Everything was ideal but Su Chen could not help but think...
Where was Shen Yi?
