A lenient whimper escaped the white wolf's mouth—the white wolf that was Thornton. Catherina had kept her foot planted on the land trying to process the sight before her. She had just watched her son—who she had spent decades and centuries with turn into a large white wolf.

There had been no signs prior that ever shown in their long lives that he was possibly a descent of a shapeshifting ancestry. Though, the mother and son were hardly ever around vampires having only met them through a simple glance of crossing paths. As well with the most important issue of Catherina having no knowledge on who Thornton's father even was in the first place.

It had happened not only during her time as just a normal human, but that was in the late 1600s. Distinct to her memories of her brother and Thorn's birth—she had on no account strong recollections of anything else in her life. It was all simply distant memories that mostly slumbered deep within her conscience.

"Thorn" Catherina whispered softly as she took careful and slow steps towards her son. Jacob had quickly reached for her arm stopping her from moving forward.

"He's still processing" Jacob stated firmly but the mother had pulled her arm out of his grip. She narrowed her gaze shaking her head.

"He is my son" She reprimanded determinedly ignoring his words. She let out a huff turning her attention back to her son and walked over. At first, Thorn reacted with stepping back—but then his soul had resonated with her own regaining his sense.

Catherina had knelt down before him and for a moment he stayed in place; but once she reached her hand out, he reacted pushing his nuzzle into her palm. A pleased huff came through as he felt his mother's arms around his neck.

Jacob who had been watching had felt his chest tightened at the sight. A dash of grief had made its way through his mind as many thoughts swarmed his head. Firstly, it was feeling a form of sadness engulf him on missing his mother, yet hardly having memories of her, he still felt the emptiness. Following, was the idea of thinking of his former and current pack members; and on how they'd wish their own parents could show the love and care without hesitation.

"Oh" Catherina spoke up, standing and facing the three males—but mainly Jacob," I apologize, but Paul is currently asleep in the back of my car"

Jacob's face moulded in confusion at her words," I'm sorry...what did you say?"

"Uh..." Catherina lifted her finger scratching her cheek," It's kind of a long story"

The two immortal brothers both broke out into laughs; The brawny male had more volume while the slender one had a softer tone. Jacob shot his head to them glaring at their reactions—but he felt a smile fighting its way on his lips. He didn't know how Paul had ended up in that situation, however, he couldn't help but find the idea hilarious.

Be the means of Paul being asleep, Catherina's attention was mainly towards her son who was patiently sitting next to her. She heard her son's amused snicker through his mind making her flick his ear at his behaviour.

"Now, are you going to stay in that form? Or are you going to change back?" Catherina knelt down levelling her eyes with his own. Thorn nuzzled his nose on her cheek leaving it slightly damp making her react with flicking it—which had him sneeze. However, she had moved at the right moment evading from being in the way of being covered in his snot.

"Thornton!" The mother whined in playful disgust. She then had stuck her tongue out making a face to him. Her gesture had left the three males observing them share looks—each trying to process the change the female had. She had the approach of maturity to now being the exact opposite of it. Regardless of the change, it had given the insight of calmness considering how stiff and guarded they all had been for Renesmee.

Catherina had stepped away from her son as he walked towards the car. Her attention had gone back to them allowing the mother to once again reach out her hand," I said it before, but I'm Catherina—and you two are" Her eyes fell onto the pale brothers.

"Emmett" The larger of the male started first shaking her hand animatedly, though he had tempted to try and give a go of trying to brawl with her—he felt the grip of her hand tighten on his own.

"I wouldn't" Catherina smile but it didn't reach her eyes," I've got a shape-shifting son, and I may seem exhausted but I can still pack a punch"

Emmett let out a laugh releasing their hands," I forgot you had telepathy like this guy" He motioned his thumb to his brother

"Edward" He reached out next taking her hand gently shaking it," Thank you for coming to help"

"No problem, what is your relation to the child by the way?" She asked all of them in one go.

"Uncle/Friend," Jacob and Emmett said in sync, though she noticed the way Jacob's word was rather stiff she referred not to question it. She didn't need to meddle into their business.

"And you?" Catherina faced Edward raising her eyebrows

"Biological father," He said slowly preparing for her questions. Though, instead of the female throwing things he probably couldn't answer, she just nodded in response.

"Well, Thorn and I will try our best to be of use," Catherina said strongly," Of all people, it had to be the Volturi"

"You know of them?" He questioned her surprised

"Son, I've been an immortal for a very long time; I think it's only natural that I learned about them—It's a risk for me" Catherina confessed grimly," I'm not sure if they know about my son and me, but your child deserves a long life. It's unfair how they are trying to play the hand of god"

Thorn walked over to his mother zipping up his hoodie, he took the chance to properly introduce himself to the guys while Catherina's eyes fell onto the home. Her head tilted feeling a pair of eyes burning through her soul. While scanning through to find the onlooker; she had found the ruby eyes that tore through her soul.

Once she locked eyes with the male; her soul lifted in a strange harmonic tune. Her throat hitched at the sudden tightness forming in her chest and while she observed the male staring at her—he too was having the same harmonic tone.

Both of them had let the same sigh escape their lips—the nameless male had a smirk form on his lips in realization while Catherina had pursed her own in a pout. She did not find the cockiness he was displaying attractive, so she shot back with an arrogant huff turning away from the male.
